Theory: Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Demon's Souls share a timeline

"Now that the Dark Souls 3 hype is building, I thought it would be a good time to hit all of you with a cool fan theory about."

Although the creator denies it, I still think there is a possibility.

Summons752956d ago

I agree, the FL Shrine in Dark Souls 3 reminds me sooooo much of Demon's Souls. Not just the going back to level but the whole layout is like it. I dunno if it's just me.

naruga2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

Demon Souls and Blooborne may be in same world ...Dark Souls series probably not

ocelot072956d ago

I think they are all connect. Like patches is in both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls (not sure of 3) as well as Bloodborne.

I saw a guy with Bloodborne gear on in Dark Souls 3 today.

sdcard4gb2955d ago

If creator denies it there are no possibilities.
Case and point.

DragonDDark2955d ago

He denied stuff that later were confirmed in his games. I think he just doesn't want to be spoilery

Spurg2957d ago

"Dark Souls is a type of game that is intentionally vague, and allows the player to create their own story with the evidence provided. Your story won't be like that of anyone else, and it probably shouldn't be."
This is by far the stupidest description I read for Dark Souls. Everyone's story in Dark souls is the same, you don't create your own story...the story is already set in stone through the item descriptions.

The evidence provided are not substantial enough to be taken seriously...its more speculation than evidence. It n interesting though but unlikely. Plus we already have confirmation from miazaki thats it not connected

DragonDDark2956d ago

Yeah, I agree. But It is an interesting Theory.

mechlord2956d ago

Yeah....because it would be the first time the game creator would mislead) us right? Like describing bloodborne as something its completely not, right?

-Foxtrot2956d ago

Interesting.

I wouldn't mind Demon Souls and Dark Souls to share a world even if it meant they were in parallel worlds or something but I think Bloodborne should be kept separate as it's own thing.

However you could say Bloodborne is a parallel world where the Blood replaced Souls.

Another theory is that you have Demon Souls as the first game and then the timeline splits into two where things acted out differently. One timeline which continued to use Souls and the other where Blood replaced them, this would explain where one series of games kept the Soul name in the title and the other used Blood.

Kalebninja2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

Don't think it was mentioned here but the watch dog of the old Lords in Bloodborne looks identical to the Dog guarding the entrance to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley in Dark Souls 3.

Master-H2956d ago

No it doesn't. The wolf monsters in Irithyll and near the Aldrich Faithful covenant look like some monster from the Berserk manga. The Watch Dog is distinctly different.

Sirk7x2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

The souls series is pretty heavily based on Berserk. There are nods to it everywhere.

Liqu1d2956d ago

They might share similarities but they're nowhere near identical.

PurpHerbison2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

They share a great deal of resemblance, to the point that I wish the DS3 watchdogs looked different. Had a chance to really give us something cool and unique to DS3 and we got a BB esque watchdog instead. Not saying the DS3 watchdog isn't cool, but you know. I'd like to see designs that are completely brand new.

Goldby2956d ago

Dark Souls and Bloodborne are Connected, and ondly enough, it seems like Bloodborne happened after Dark Souls 3 at least mainly due to the inclusion of the Black Hand Armor Set and Marvelous Chester in Dark Souls 2
https://i.kinja-img.com/gaw...

"Attire of hunters known as the King's Black Hands. A black cape covers leather armor, shrouding the wearer in darkness.

Black Hand was the title established to honor hunters who served successive generations of kings. To date, no more than three such individuals have borne this distinction."

The Three Hunters they are talking about most likely are Father Gascoigne, Gehrman and "the player"

DragonDDark2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

Woah... now that I think about it. ..

(SPOILERS DS3 Ending) the true ending where the first flame turns off, the dark souls repeated cycle is done. Everything goes dark.. and supposedly the world ends but instead bloodborne happens!

This is cool xD

PurpHerbison2956d ago

I think so as well and it is because of the Aldrich soul description.

"When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea. "

Liqu1d2956d ago

I don't think so. You can find Black Hand Gotthard's corpse outside the Grand Archive and you fight Black Hand Kamui later in the level. I

n the Bloodborne Alpha/Beta you could glitch out the map and fight Father Gascoigne, if he killed you he would say "Umbasa" which is straight from Demon's Souls, it's absent in the final game but it seems they were playing with the idea of having Demon's Souls and Bloodborne share the same world.

Goldby2956d ago

Umbasa was Demon souls version of a "amen", finishing a prayer, hence why its Father Gascoigne who said it as he's clergy. Theres also unconfirmed links between The Dark Sun Gwyndolin and Mergo's Wet Nurse. Gwyndolin was born a male, brought up as a female, and is only accesible through the Yellow Resonance Ring. IMO, Either Dark Sun went to take Queen Yharnam's Child from her as he couldn't bear childrens himself, as he truly believed he was a female at that point, or was the wetnurse at that time but it was a still borne, and the only way she knew how to keep the child alive was through blood instead of milk. hence her connection with Eileen, the hunter of hunters. and they both have weapons made of siderite that is similiar to Titanite from DS, both come from the heavens/gods. Mergo's Wet nurse is mission 2 blades, one is Eileens blades of mercy, the other is Gerhman's Burial Blade.

Unfortunately these sort of things will probably never be fully answered by From. but thats some of the best parts, theory talk

Liqu1d2956d ago

The description for Gascoigne's set says that Father is a title used for clerics in a foreign land, that's why I think he may have been intended to be from Boletaria.

I'm not sure about the Gwyndolin and Wet Nurse Connection. In Dark Souls 3 you'll find out what happened to him, you may see some similarities between Gwyndolin and a certain boss.

Duoma2956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

I always had an inkling that the "ancient ones" described in bloodborne could possibly be the enemies we encounter in the dark souls series. There was always talk about the dream in bloodborne being a nexus to alternate timelines or realities, it would be neat if dark souls was one of those.

The best PS5 exclusives 2024

With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond

PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?

VersusDMC36d ago

They won't complain about Microsoft not releasing games here but put all their effort into saying that only first party counts. Games like Rebirth and Grandblue Relink don't count. Games published by Sony like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin don't count because Sony don't own the studios.

It's some narrative building so for when Hellblade 2 come out they can say, seemingly without shame, that Microsoft is actually releasing first party games this year. And claim victory.🙃

Chevalier36d ago

Weird 1st party games didn't matter when Xbox had so little, but, now they're important again? Guess Ark 3, Stalker 2 don't count any more?

KyRo36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

ARK 3 doesn't exist and it's just a timed exclusive. It's also a game that a majority of the ARK player base doesn't want as it's a massive deviation from what people like about the original game

Abnor_Mal36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Honestly to me it doesn’t matter what they say, they are just finally getting a chance to say all the things PS fan(boy)s were saying to them for the past few years. Let them get that, they deserve a “win” for a change.

The new narrative is that suddenly first party games matter again when awhile ago they didn’t, but that was because they were struggling with the same three games with the occasional fourth or fifth. That games should be everywhere on all platforms since that’s whats happening to theirs. The consoles don’t matter just the ability to play anywhere. Whatever Xbox is doing Sony will soon follow.

They’re not moving the goalpost anymore, but rather just moving the whole damn stadium.

jwillj2k436d ago

Only a incel would care about who published what and who owns who.

If it’s not on the other consoles it’s an exclusive.

Killing what? Where are the 1st party games??
Stellar Blade and FF7 is what I’m seeing this year.. so shallow!!!!

andy8536d ago

Doesn't really matter as long as they're great games. Baffles me why people put an emphasis on 1st party. They're still games you can't play anywhere else this year

Cacabunga36d ago

Andy

PS brand is my favorite because of their stellar first party software.. currently I see absolutely nothing to go crazy for..

CS736d ago

Nonsense.

PS1 and PS2 was built on great third party exclusives like FF, MGS, GTA & Tekken.

raWfodog36d ago

Of course I love the games I’ve played from PS but I don’t believe we need to limit it to ‘exclusive’ to acknowledge that Xbox will be releasing some good games this year also. In that same vein, I believe that Xbox diehards shouldn’t limit their acknowledgment of good PS games to 1st party. There are plenty of good games to go around for everybody.

Tacoboto36d ago

This is a Playstation article about Playstation games and your comment is about Xbox. Can't you just celebrate what PS has without dragging this into console war BS?

ChasterMies36d ago

I don’t think Microsoft is releasing games exclusively on Xbox anymore. They have some timed exclusives that release on Xbox first.

Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.

GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.

But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.

Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.

SonyStyled36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Sony owns the Helldivers IP. The first was a PS3/Vita/PC game. It was never an Xbox game that they could ‘get’ a decade ago. I’m not sure what the upset is with Xbox here

CS736d ago

Lol, how do you ignore Rebirth one of the best games ever made?

anast36d ago

Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.

I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.

DaniMacYo36d ago

Helldivers 2 is exactly what gaming needed. I’m loving it.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno50d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3349d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree49d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga49d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno49d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

anast17d ago

All great games beside DS2.

toxic-inferno17d ago

I would agree, but there are some things in DS2 that are great and incredibly memorable. It tries to do things differently, and there are some amazingly cinematic moments.

Of course, there's also poor level design (particularly the interconnectivity of the world), questionable combat choices and some of the worst boss runs since the early days of video games...

anast17d ago

True. I can't disagree the game has some moments.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein51d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw51d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever51d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein51d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

MeteorPanda51d ago

Considering l did a run 2 months ago? Yes.
