Black Desert Online Deserves PS4 and Xbox One Ports with Cross-Network Gameplay

There aren’t many MMORPGs on PS4 and Xbox One, and most of those that are on consoles don’t really feel like current generation games. They feel like they are the fruit of an older generation of titles, and don’t really manage to stand on a similar level with single player console games.

Black Desert Online has a chance to stand out among the rest.

we will soon see just how open to the idea sony and microsoft truly are about allowing gamers to play together. we pay their bills so they should not have any problem with it.

Sony always was open to the idea, but that was more to let the developers solve the issues themselves. Games use their own servers, XB1 and PS4 don't really use anything besides the party chat, friendslist, etc. of their respective networks to achieve communications with other users, it's all data to and from the servers.

Downside to that method is that you can't communicate with people on the other network or invite them to play.

Since MS claims to have something in place to allow cross network play it might be that they made something that would allow PS4 users to be present on the Xbox network. If that is the case I can totally understand that Sony might not like that idea...

Both need to come up with a library that is avail on both platforms that would allow inviting people and party chat and the like on the other network without any hassles...
That would be the best solution, if they really integrate it into the OSes then we can add people to our friends list on the other network! That really would be awesome!

i dont get why people are disagreeing though. more people means the servers are more active for longer

I doubt we'll see with this game. It's still in a paid beta on PC, and the community is god awful.

We've already seen it with other games on PS4/PS3/PC though, so I don't think it's a problem on Sony's end. However, it is up to the devs to support it, and AFAIK MS is the only one who blocked cross-play with the Xbox console. That's why I had a good chuckle over how people were praising MS for saying they're open to it, and criticizing Sony for not making it happen, despite Sony allowing it since the PS2 days.

I guess going forward, if Sony is really against cross network with Xbox, it will be made known. MS kind of painted themselves into a corner though by opening up the possibility last month, so would be hard for them to back out without criticism.

Neither Sony or MS are going to support this game, cross network or otherwise, before it's ready to go for a full stress test beta...which is nowhere close based on what I've seen. I'd rather the devs get the game released before they start working on console ports.

yes microsoft was against it before but they did support it back in the old days with games like shadowrun. now microsoft has made it very public they are willing to play with others and basically put the attention back onto sony. microsoft has changed a lot over the years thanks in large part in new leadership with a new ceo and new head of the xbox.

we all know the real system wars has been for quite some time between xbox and playstation so i don't know why anyone would be against the idea.

Yeah, I'm happy MS is making it known, because maybe more publishers will adopt it.

I don't know if it's a matter of trying to put the focus on Sony though. Sony has never been against it as far as I can tell.

There might be some games they wouldn't allow to use cross network for whatever reason, and likely there are details which have to be ironed out before any game could do such a thing, but for the most part, all the consoles do is act as a mediator between the servers unless Sony is running the server. As far as the server is concerned, it doesn't really care where it gets the information from.

Every MMORPG I have tried on console hasn't felt "right". The sense of community just isn't there like when playing on PC.

Consoles do a ton of games well, MMORPG really isn't one of them imo

If they will finally allow crossover play, then I can't wait to see all the flame wars between which system has the most dominant players in - name your - MP game...
