DOOM Open Beta Impressions – The DOOM of a Franchise | Attack On Gaming

"Today, Bethesda and iD Software released the Open Beta of their latest reboot in the DOOM franchise, DOOM. This latest DOOM is supposed to be the next coming in video games, and judging by the visuals, you’d be hard-pressed to argue that a decent amount of effort wasn’t put into the game. Thanks to how heavily marketed this game is (we seriously have advertisements in train stations near where I live for this game), it’s hard not to have heavy expectations for the title going into it. Even more, as a Quake3/Live player for a large portion of my life, it was hard not to expect a game that would live up to the advertising, especially in the multiplayer department where this Open Beta was doing its showcase." - Attack On Gaming

I've played it, meh, feels like Unreal Tournament set in Hell. Sure there's differences here and there but the over all feel of it is pretty identical.

Oh well, I always played Doom for the single player anyways so hopefully that will be good.

ShottyGibs3358d ago

That's a good takeaway for me since Unreal has great gameplay. I've downloaded the beta but haven't had a chance to play.
Like you thought, the campaign is what I want to see.

xfiles20993358d ago

I did not like it just not feeling this one

OokuChicken3358d ago

I felt that it was a bit slower paced than UT. But it's a pretty fair comparison.

Free_Fro3358d ago

Eff, I'd love to be home right now playing..
Stuck at work.. can't wait to give it a test drive..

Emotes... why do developers put such childish things in mature games? I get it some people like em, but it's just a sorry excuse to nickel and dime and is a waste of development that can go towards something better.

24twelve3358d ago

It's a waste of development because you don't like it? Two people could manage to do the emotes, minimum. When your taskforce is 100+, having two (or even 10) people do emotes is hardly a waste of development. Besides, emotes were probably something low on the priority list, which they put in after their core work was first completed.

I swear, more and more people complain about every single thing these days.

I'm sure they will also add an ignore taunts/emotes option in just for people like you. Would that still be a waste of development time?

Dabigsiebowski3358d ago

Every first person shooter is following this trend. Makes even CoD look not so douche. I'm complaining because no space marine in battle is ever going to do that. And what's worse, it's just a sorry excuse for micro transactions.

Artemidorus3358d ago

Has a Quake feeling to it which is no bad thing

OokuChicken3358d ago

This is wrong on so many levels

OokuChicken3358d ago

You are literally talking to a Q3/Live player, that is active to this day, and has been playing for over 10 years.

sullynathan3358d ago

Can't even play it, I just get a blue screen

just played the open beta, I still think Unreal Tournament Alpha is better overall especially weapons feedback. I hope DOOM will offer a good campaign experience because the multiplayer feels a bit behind the competition.

Sciurus_vulgaris3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

The multiplayer is imbalanced. Everything that people generally complained about in the alpha is still the same. The loadouts are not well balanced, power weapons give you easy kills and the demon is op . Bethesda kept implying that doom 2016, is an arena shooter, when it is not due to lack of weapons on maps, loadouts and now timed perks.

I don't see the mp of this game holding a community for very long. The PC version will likely benefit from modding. During the alpha people generally wanted the mp to be changed to have weapons on map, have higher jump height, and a faster movement speed. The dev clearly didn't listen as all they did between the alpha and beta was ad timed perks.

MWH3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

I add my voice to the community's remarks and requests, it will be a major disappointment if id failed to communicate. everything you said I have experienced in the game and though the game isn't terribly bad but I too think the mp will quickly lose its steam the way things are now.

back to Unreal Tournament Alpha.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

Levii_9246d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil46d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Gamingsince1981134d ago

Weird games in general we don't get enough of, we need more games like Katamari and Mr domino, things like that
