Rumor: Crysis coming to PS3/360 in Q2 2009

"According to a PSU source, Crytek is planning to release Crysis bundled with the new expansion Warhead on the Xbox 360 in Q4 2008 - Q1 2009, followed by a PlayStation 3 version in Q1-Q2 of 2009.

It's not always true in every single case (when it comes to multiplatform games), but there is reason to believe that it may be true for this particular type of game, just because of how CPU intensive it, with regard to all the physics and destruction and such, lending itself to a lot of parallel processing. All of it has the potential be handled very well on the Cell processor.

The best thing that could come of this is that developers will notice how great Crysis looks on consoles and they will start using CryEngine2 for there games too instead of the same old lets use UE3. Which translates into a 2010+ line up of games that is more graphically diverse.

It will be lucky to run on either console without some noticeable changes to the game. CryEngine 2 is all powerful, but unless they can cut out some stuff and optimize it to run well on the consoles you will be lucky to see 30 fps on either one of them. Its possible though with lots of hard work. I don't know if Crytek is into the whole working hard on a game thing though. They perfected the engine well, but not optimization or performance...

But I think if it does get ported over we should expect some delays, I would be more convinced of a summer and fall release, This is the type of game that I think they would want a few months to hype before release and seeing as January is a little more than 4 months out, they would certainly have offically annouced it by now unless they are going to at PAX. But we will see. I would say January Crysis release as likely as March release for GoW3... or in other words not very likely.

I'm sorry, but crysis is meant for PC. The allure of the game was how technically advanced it was, wasn't it? My PC can't even play the game, but it can play most of the PC games which come from the PS3/360 lvl. Actually there were stronger PCs than 360/PS3 even before they came out, yet the only PC game that surpassed 360/ps3 power so far(about two years later) is Crysis, and it's not even that great, the orange box was ten times better even thought it requires less than half of Crysis hardware power.

The point is, graphic is not every thing, as long as there are good games the console will live on.

well, that's wrong.
the cell processor on the ps3 has 7 spe's, and only 6 are available to game devs. sony had to cut 1 spe to increase the yield on the manufacturing process.

A far as the way the Xenon 360's CPU works compared to Cell.... The Cell rips it up.

The Cell has 1 PPE that kicks tasks to the 6 available SPE's those SPE's are extremely fast.

Xenon has 3 PPE's they can hyperthread which would mean they can run 6 threads of code. Yet hyperthreading does not mean the clockspeed goes from 3.2ghz to 9.6ghz someone just pulled that out of there as$. Hyperthreading is not efficient BTW. You don't get the performance you would think its not like 3 Cores hyperthreading would be equivalent to an actual 6 core cpu FYI.

Xenon= 3core dual threaded (not hyper threaded) cpu (each core being 3.2ghz)

shows up as 6 logical processors, since they are INDEPENDENT from each other. programs have access to all 6 threads, though a fraction of processor time on one of the cores must be used for system functions.

programs see only the hardware threads of a processor, and count that as it's logical existence. in the case of cell, they see only the PPE's threads.

SPE's do not qualify for being called cores as they do not have the necessary bootstrap information or configuration for a bios to load each individual SPE as its own entity.

Usually in multicore chips (like a c2d) one core is marked to be the bootstrap core and the other(s) is-aren't. But you could only do that to a core that is designed to be able to function as a general processor. Since the SPE's aren't general processors, only the PPE contains the bootstrap data.

Because of this, the PS3 system sees CellBE as a dual threaded PPE (two logical processors) and it's SUBORDINATE SPEs. Since there are 6 available (one is locked for the system, the other inactive) PS3 theoretically has 8 cores, 2 logical processors and 2+6 threads available to programs, with SPE threads requiring "special" programming by the PPE before they become useful.

In comparison, each core in the 360's Xenon is general purpose and completely independent from the others. Each core will manifest itself in to the system as 2 logical processors, since they are dual threaded. Inter-core communication is tight, but they are not dependent on each other for functionality. They each qualify to be a full fledged general purpose core and as such each can be bootstrapped.

Crysis was a good game, the problem was that the engine wasn't optimized which made it less likely to sell well and the poor ass marketing which said you needed a £2,000 computer to run.

You need your eyes testing then. I actually didn't like Cyrsis apart from the graphics i thought it was poor but Killzone2 wonderful as it does look just isnt as good texture wise.
And one of the reasons killzone looks the way it does is because of the muted colour palette which allows the ps3 to render more onscreen quicker.
As for crysis running better on ps3 rather than 360 have you checked out the farcry2 footage recently the 360 is much better.

I have a ps3 and think killzone2 is gonna be great but i dont have sony specs on my face 24hrs a day hiding the reality from my face.

I remember a rumor not too long ago about Crysis earlier this year about Crysis not coming to the 360, but it would be coming to the PS3.

Anyways, if Crytek is working on both a PS3 and 360 version, the PS3 version will more than likely come out on top because Crytek would be utilizing the PS3 and exploring it's potential. The majority of multiplatform games for both the PS3/360 don't even scratch the surface of what the PS3 can do because a lot of developers still has the 360 has the lead platform.

I think that Crytek is the type of developer that wouldn't intentionally hold back the PS3 version of Crysis because of the 360's limitations because they've already made so many strides in PC gaming.

I hope that Crytek takes FULL advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray and Cell just like Guerrilla, Kojima Productions and others and just go ALL OUT with this game.

First up was the biggest release of 2008, GTA4 .... it was proven that it looked and ran better on the 360. FACT. (please don't argue that point, your just going to make yorself look silly with your opinions)

BUT heres the real test, the real showdown.... Crysis... this game is without a doubt the best looking game "graphically" ever created... so good, it was ahead of it's time when it was released and PC's couldn't run it at max settings.

Now we all know the 360 and PS3 can NOT push Crysis at the desired max settings... so let's just see how far they can push the 360 and ps3.

I was at outsidelands music festival this weekend.. and they had a microsoft little area.. with Rock band.. and GH.. and they had a rig playing crysis on a big ol 46" screen.. and looked like complete crap. But i think the rig was the issue.. but it was laggy as hell.. and the graphics while trying to look sharp and crisp.. it was seriously lacking. Could have been the huge screen, im sure its easier to detail a 21" monitor. But i was seriously dissappointed

I remember loading up FarCry when it first came out...boy, talk about next gen! Looking back at it now, even today it stands pretty well on its own.

The great engines of the time were:

Halflife 2 (has been a halmark for quite a while)
Doom3 (shows up in games as far as Prey and The Darkness)
Unreal (though its graphics demands were WAY behind)
and FarCry (crytek's stuff has consistently been graphically outstanding)

That's great.
But I don't think the 360 can handle this game processing and format wise w/ DVD.
Sony on the other hand after seeing games like Killzone 2, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, FFXIII Versus, MGS4, and so forth can do it easily but after seeing some problems w/ Rage I don't think the 360 can handle it.
360 is a great console but after looking at the exclusives I don't know if the Xbox can handle that kind of detail and processing power all at once or have that many enemies on screen like the PS3 can.

xbox 360 version - not blurred - more jaggies - more pop ins
ps3 version - slightly blurred - less jaggies - less pop ins

and he states its personal preference so your argument is stupid he proves nothing about which is superior he proves what i said all along there different none is better for example i may not be able to stand jaggies and pop ins but don't mind about the blur effect so i would say the ps3 version is the best but you could say you hate blur effects but don't mind jaggies and pop ins so you say xbox 360 version is the best so its as i stated all along its personal preference none is superior so crawl back into your god damn fanboy hole KID

but if you look at the FACTS, maybe you can learn how to get a grip with the reality that GTA4 runs sub HD with no AA on PS3 BUT runs at 720p with 2xAA on the 360.

yes the 360 has the higher rez and alittle aa in gta4.

And it's a shame that rockstar couldn't muster the same rez plus aa from the ps3 version, but from what i've read, rockstar were some way from using ps3 at anywhere near max. So for their first game on ps3, i think they did pretty well. And after all, it's one game.

But the ps3 does have it's own plus points, better water shaders, better in game movies.

GTA4 is old now, and tbh with all the games coming out, most people won't be playing it. You got sucked into the hype. Maybe your a gta man, good for you. But most of us realy on diversity.

I think most will get an idea how crysis would run on either console from farcry 2, although using different engines. It's a vast island, with alot of foilage. Explosions, And alot of water.

But yes as time goes by the ps3 version of any game will look better.

I'm wondering what games the next eurogamer round by round will have.

Whether or not crysis comes out, killzone 2 FTW.
