TG writes: The baseball season is in full swing and that means developer San Diego Studio has this year's edition of MLB The Show 16 ready to go. Should you step up to the plate and buy it, or are you better off sticking with last season's edition?

Isn't MLB: The Show the only major baseball game out there? Or are there others?

There's RBI Baseball but it's not good at all.

I see. I figured, because for some reason EA doesn't have baseball in their arsenal, but they have basketball, Soccer, Football, even golf, but no Baseball!?

2K used to have a baseball game but it was mediocre at best and totally unplayable online.

EA at one point years and years ago had a title...

I believe it's last incarnation was referred to as MVP Baseball..

Like another person mentioned there was 2K baseball... Which by all means had a solid foundation but ultimately was just an average quality game. 2K MLB games stopped around 2013 or so I believe give or take a year.

But all that being said. There is absolutely no MLB exclusive deal between MLB and PS and/or San Diego Studios (the developers)

Anyone out there with the money to buy the rights can make an MLB licensed game... However the problem is that MLB: The Show has pretty much been the highest rated MLB game since it's arrival onto the market.

Basically it's reached juggernaut status to the point where other companies and developers view another MLB game as a "sure-fire loss" when pitted against The Show.

That's pretty much in my opinion why no one else is making them right now.

It's not like EA and Madden and the NFL.. Anyone can make a MLB game if they pay to use the rights.

Back in the 90's and early 2000's was the best time for competitive MLB games.. The market was ripe with so many different ones.. Ken Griffy, Frank Thomas.. they all had their own games.. High Heat Baseball, Triple Play Baseball, Sammy Sosa..... The list goes on and on...

It's Amazon, btw. Not sure why they left that out of the title and N4G description.
