Here's What Different Gaming Console Dev Kits Look Like

Here is a look at some versions of console dev kits over the years.

There is a WB games subsidiary near where I live and some times I get to test games for them. They have that big PS dev kit. I think it's bigger than an Xbox One.

That original Xbox is sexy. I miss the days of see through consoles, I had a see though Gameboy and GBA and they were just the bees knees to me.

The only reason I got into 3DS games was because of the crystal blue 2DS. I was going to let the GBA SP be my last Nintendo portable until I saw that awesome case. Personally the only thing I hate about it is the small buttons and the lack of GBA games.

Ps2 dev kit was sweet looking, amd I thought the Xbox dev kit was just a tower PC?

There are different versions of the Dev Kit. The Xbox also had a tower with Xbox branded casing.

This is what Microsoft was running Xbox 360 games on at E3 2005. Clearly the hardware wasn't ready. I took this photo myself, just before being removed from Microsofts booth. :)

The Net Yaroze was actually a black console that was sold to the public to try to encourage indie development. The blue console is a debug kit that was for the industry only.

While I appreciate the look of the dev kits, I have to disagree. I myself would love one, but I'm also a bit of a geek. Most casual players want something small and simple.

The PS2 dewv kit looks way more advance than PS3. The Dreamcast dev looks like uh... computer. And the Saturn looks like a printer from the 80s.

All then are beautiful and represent a part of the history of the game industry.
I think that someone or some group, should preserve this development kits in some way, like in some kind of museum. The same way they already do with the game consoles.

Wow! this is interesting to see. I cant believe how different some of them look and suprise how similar some are. I only ever seen and knew of the blue Playstation before but the rest are new to me.

The SNES dev kit had to be built by developers with cartridges and software. That's weird. I guess it worked though because the SNES had some really impressive games back then. I still own over 100 SNES. The Gamecube dev kit didn't even have an optical drive. Seems Nintendo was still having a hard time getting away from cartridges.
