Why The BAFTAs Were (Mostly) Right To Snub The Witcher 3

Doc Watson from GamersFTW writes: "The 2016 BAFTA Game Awards came and went yesterday, and it was a shock to many people that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, nominated for seven different awards, came up with a clean slate of zero. People are understandably annoyed at the snub: how did such a decorated game come out empty handed? I find myself agreeing with the BAFTAs decisions, because The Witcher 3 has one weakness that made it fall short at the ceremony."

I must say, I'm surprised that The Witcher was snubbed, but I'm happy to see that a unique experience, like Her Story, was recognized. For my money it's worth supporting the little guys. I suspect we'll begin to see that more in the future when, like in Hollywood, the biggest, brashest spectacle gets all the money and smashes records, and the smaller, more emotional experience takes the gold.

That being said, the Witcher 3 is an absolutely fantastic experience. Loved every second of that game.

But Fallout 4 getting game of the year? There was a stockpile of class titles last year - IMO The Witcher 3 being one of them - but then you had the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles X and Bloodborne, as well to name but a couple. Yet F4 somehow still won top honour?! Did Bethesda sponsor the awards this year? :P

This being a humble opinion anyway, but still congratulations to them all for their wins, and Fallout 4. Even if it doesn't float everyone's boat!

BAFTA is now officially a crap awards ceremony to me.

Of course they can't let the Polish win GOTY.

WITCHER 3 EXCELLED IN EVERY DEPARTMENT. IT IS NOT A JACK OF ALL TRADES. Art design, soundtrack, story, gameplay, graphics, all in all entertainment.

Ori had a good art design but I was tired of it after a while, Witcher 3's art design was unbelievable. The various characters, locations, the synthesis of all the visual elements in the scenery and the world felt believable and yet fantasy enough to not be just photoreal.

I can go on and on but BAFTA doesnt know squat about most of their awards.

These BAFTA awards baffle me no love for the Witcher 3? Anyway we all know who the real 2015 GOTY was because it sure wasn't Fallout 4.

Yea im shocked as well fallout was good but not great. The witcher 3 tho "amazing game". My wife who will only really play a handfull of games ambushed my save file after watching me play a few hours. I came home from work stoked to play more but instead found her liven on my ps4 that she jump on to play the sec i walked out the door. I watched her for frist time pull and allnight gameing beng. It was amazing she got into the lore and i just watched.

To me games like Her Story are the equivalent of a blank painting hanging in a modern art museum......straight hipster bait garbage.
And ive put over 140 hours into Fallout 4, but that game is not GOTY material in any way. To snub Witcher 3 becouse it won too many awards already is ridiculous! Again, instead of recognising something for its strengths we have this hipster pandering going on in modern media.

I'm still enjoying Fallout, even today. I don't think the Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 was perfect in any way. Both had their faults but in terms of fun-factor I'd go with Fallout 4.
