Carl Williams writes, "In the history of video games there are not that many third party franchises that have not seen at least on release on a Nintendo console. One such franchise that holds that honor is Splatterhouse. No, I am not counting the “super deformed” game that was released in Japan. Namco originally started Splatterhouse in arcades, then NEC brought it home to the Turbo Grafx-16. That was enough for Namco to bring the franchise home and release Splatterhouse 2 and 3, the subject of this article, on the Sega Genesis as exclusives. Splatterhouse 3 takes a serious departure from the norm of the series though. Rather than being another 2D action game, part three is a brawler not unlike Final Fight or Streets of Rage. Namco had a few tricks up their sleeves though."
From rage quits to broken buttons, these games tested our skills and our will to live. These are the most difficult games.
Unless we're talking loops 3+, contra does not belong on this list. Loop one I've done without losing a life.
And yes I am extremely biased as contra, super C and Contra 3: the alien wars are three of my favorite games.
Add punch out, Fester's Quest, Blaster Master, Solomon's key, and adventure island.
I cannot beat battletoads, Solomon's key or adventure island even with emulators and save states.
For those times when you’d rather watch than play — these games are as binge-worthy as your favourite Netflix series.
It’s time game developers stop ignoring one of the most beloved features in gaming history: split-screen couch co-op. I miss it!
It's a shame to me that so few indie devs seem interested in catering to this era (split screen era) of nostalgic gaming. Many of them are interested in retro gaming, obviously, but almost all of them seem to drift either to platformers or Metroidvanias (no issue with either, there have just been so many). I'd love to see an indie dev really try to capture that late N64/PS1 through early Xbox/PS2/GameCube era of split screen gaming.
Splatterhouse was an insane series that I absolutely loved and was pretty difficult as well. I was surprised to see it rebooted last generation and was very disappointed that Namco Bandai isn't pushing for a sequel. The newer installment nailed the look but needed variety in finishers and some improvements in sound design.
If this game was made today these crazy feminazi women would say Jennifer doesn't need saving and that it's sexist to imply she does. They would demand that she be an equal protagonist or would boycott the game via social media which would go viral and put pressure on sega to decide what to do change the game to satisfy these insecure nut jobs, don't make the game and save artistic integrity, or better yet just release it in Japan and save themselves the headache of dealing with out of control women spouting sexism on every dam thing they can lay their hands on.
Bet they sure are happy they made this game when it was something only guys enjoyed.
Splatter house 3 was a big reason to own the Genesis. I dumped lots of time trying to get the best ending.
This series needs a reboot or a proper sequel.. Although the originals were great, the turbo grafx version was censored and changed his mask plus there was some green goo instead of blood.. There was an arcade version that started you off with a cleaver and the iconic mask straight from the get go..
This would make a great brawler with 2 players if possible.. Full gore uncensored greatness.. I was disappointed with the latest games performance.. The foundation was there but poorly executed..
"Your princess is another castle", a tale as old as time(early 80's).
