‘Rigs’ is Like A Mechanized Sport Version of ‘Unreal Tournament’ Exclusive to PSVR | UploadVR

Upload:
Before the PlayStation VR event during GDC, we didn’t know very much about Rigs Mechanized Combat League, other than the simple fact that it was a PSVR exclusive competitive shooter designed to resemble a futuristic mech combat sport. Luckily, at the PSVR event we had the chance to get some hands-on time with a demo build of the game that featured full 3v3 competitive multiplayer.

We need an Unreal Tournament VR game!

This looks great. I really need some eyes-on time with VR

I use glasses and I get migranes sometimes, so I was naturally skeptical of VR. But there was nothing that prepared me for the complete sense of immersion I got when I played Eve:Valkyrie. It was what made me instantly change my mind about VR. As a hugh sci-fi fan going back to the days of X-Wing, Wing Commander, Privateer etc etc - For me Eve:Valkyrie could easiy be my killer app.

But my second most anticipated VR game is defintely Rigs. I think it is great that Sony are leading strong with multiplater VR games. That's something that I haven't seen on the other VR platforms. I'm actually surprised that there is no talk of the new Doom game being released for VR. Especially as John Carmak now works for Occuclus!

Ah wing commander....

Yeah I can imagine this being epic. Seriously can't wait

Technically, you can get any Unreal working in VR. However, I'd recommend the newest one. It's pretty smooth.

Unrealtournament.com if you want to download it for free. It's coming along nicely.

Unreal Tournament in VR would kill a grown man in under 1 minute. No way this would be a good idea. UT is waaaaay too fast/precise of a game, and it has one big flaw that makes it incompatible with VR:

Rigs has a cockpit overlay, which helps preventing motion sickness because it gives your eyes a reference point to inform you that you are sitting inside a thing that is moving, but you're not moving yourself. You're sitting in your chair in real life, and you have the impression that you're also sitting in the game. That's why it works well. Ubi's eagle flight game does the same by showing you the back of the eagle's head instead of being completely in first person. Other VR FPS games like Bullet Train and Budget Cuts solve this problem by making you move around by teleporting instead of walking, so you never have that weird feeling of walking in the game but remaining stable in real life.

These things are crucial to make these kinds of games work in VR. I've made a fast FPS game demo in VR, and trust me when I say that it was completely unbearable. If you ever wondered why devs don't just port any game to VR, this is the reason why.

Ive been saying all this timE for months, this was the most acclaimed and hottest vr coming out of E3 out of "all" the platforms. This game imo also looks like the best VR game and yeah its on hardware weaker than the competition then again games like Gow3, uncharte, tlou, etc.... Showed tht that doesn't matter.

With RIGS, we could very well be looking at something that could finally wean people off of Rocket League!

In multiplayer terms, this has 'killer app' potential and should sell PSVR - hell, it's sold it to me!

Thats what i been saying for awhile but ppl pop up on here saying wild, crazy stuff just because they have an agenda. I mean its cool if you dont like it but got to give proprs where they are due and alot of ppl are sayign this game is dope and many that it is the best vr game theyve played out of all of them.

butchertroll3392d ago

Also, game is also Rocket League deja vu, which is awesome!

Quote :

Sprinting up a ramp, boosting into the air, and descending through the goal to score for my team was extremely satisfying, but not as satisfying as knocking an enemy mech out of the air just before they score. That’s the kind of rush that’s only comparable to barely securing a last-second save in Rocket League.

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

I’m an old fart too. I couldn’t believe how violent saints and sinners was.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
