IGN's Rebekah Valentine chatted with an ESA spokesperson about the recent Trump tariffs, and how they will impact not just the Nintendo Switch 2 price, but the entire industry: consumers, developers, and even next-gen consoles.
Sony consoles are made in Japan and China. While Xbox is primarily made in China.
Japan was hit with a 24% tarrif on all impoints while China was hit with a 54% which is high but it includes the tarrifts from before.
This is not good for global trade at all. We could be witnessing the Smoot-Hawley act all over again.
They had previous in Og Xbox and 360 days. But since Xbox one i think all production is in China.

That is fine, true American pioneers are happy to be on your shit list as we bring back manufacturing and command the rain once and for all using inventions originally designed and developed by naturalized US citizens. Of course I'm talking about the harmonious method of rain control using cloudbuster technology which was developed by the American named Reich circa 1950. The cloudbuster does not utilize any chemicals whatsoever, and it does not run on any electric or gas fuel whatsoever as there are no moving parts. This is just one example of proper American dominance in manufacturing that has been shelved for nearly 80 years and will soon reach the market. Once the cloudbuster reaches the market soon then finally scientists can begin to legally isolate the undiscovered elements that apparently result in the aerial redistribution and accretion of atmospheric water molecules which forms rain clouds. It appears the cloudbuster exhibits sympathetic resonance with undiscovered elements that serve as conductors in the transmission of water molecules.
The device is called the cloudbuster because when the operator does not know how to control the machine properly then ironically pre-existing clouds dissipate in the sky and the climate dries out which is obviously the opposite of accreting water molecules to form rain clouds. If someone wanted to they could actually create a drought using the cloud buster instead of curing droughts. Suffice it to say the device therefore has at least two modes of operation.

Look, all I’m saying is now sh*t is more expensive with the tariffs coming in place. I don’t give a sugar frosted f*ck about cloud busters or pioneers. What is affecting my enjoyment to pursue things I’m interested in without costing me even more is where my focus is at.

Hopefully Nintendo slaps a huge price increase on the Switch 2 in America, that’ll help wake people up.
Has the ESA also lost the plot? Last I checked Nintendo doesn't make anything in the US, but Switch 2 and its games are expensive everywhere except allegedly in Japan. Assumimg the proce scheme in Japan is real, perhaps Nintendo believes they can make bank on the rest of the world?
Whatever, the point is that Switch 2 and it's games aren't expensive because of the evil orange man and that makes actual economic sense considering the fact that nations with no logical economic ties to these US tariffs and Nintendo exist, yet Switch 2 and its games are still ridiculously expensive outside of the US. It's not like Nintendo makes their consoles only to ship them to the US for global distribution just so they can charge more and if they do... then that decision would still be Nintendo's own.
That's not really relevant to the tariff situation specifically within the US.
Regardless of what the pricing structure may or may not be throughout the world, the United States will most likely have to pay an ADDITIONAL and very substantial increase on both the hardware and software across all platforms due entirely to the Trump administrations ridiculously irresponsible tariff policy.
So why did the head of the ESA bring up Switch 2's price? Hm... well that was exactly my point; it's not relevant. Nintendo choose to make Switch 2 expensive, not Trump. People getting upset about these tariffs before they were implemented was ridiculous and this article only poses the same questions even expounding on how little they know only speculating how this could affect the industry because many games are also made here in the US. These tariffs will have pricing impacts and those are well known and understood what is being speculated is how this will impact long-term gaming habits in the US and development of new games and possibly technology.
None of which pertains to Nintendo's Switch 2 pricing or cutting-off pre-orders. That was all Nintendo.

Well I complete agree that the tariffs had very little if any effect on the original pricing, as you say that's all on Nintendo. But that doesn't change the fact that the tariffs may well end up adding a further price increase on top.

I won't argue against the possibility og additional costs incurred for the American audience on top of Nintendo's own ludicrous pricing due to tariffs, but the very mention of that is a backhanded admission that Trump's tariffs have nothing at all to do with Nintendo's original Switch 2 pricing.

On the press side, I feel like there's a lot of petty spitefulness (mostly about that data leak) and politics ("The ESA said things I don't like, how dare they!") involved with this whole "unload as much mud as we can" trend on E3. Personally, I don't care about that crap. I'm here for the games.

Christmas is like my Christmas this is a nothing more than a game show many others happen through the year. Im not against E3 I just know its not needed and more and more are seeing that too.
Okay, but this entire industry isnt "needed". I'm not even sure what you're trying to say in your comment. Is there any gaming convention/show that's "needed"? Not really. But they make it nice and easy to keep up with announcements, gameplay demos and general gaming news, and the vast majority enjoy watching.

I don't think that gamers are against it. Some just aren't as excited for it as they may have been in the past. I don't really see why any gamer would be against a game conference, especially those that are known for game announcements.
Because the ESA are the villains of the industry. They are a lobby that pushes Microtransations and loot boxes, and I believe they are also in charge of the ESRB but I could be wrong with that.
As for the actual event, Last year they were so incompetent that they posted around 2000 peoples personal info on their website that attended e3.
Personally I don't care, All I ever cared about were the press conferences, and they have been getting worse each year since 2014. Was hoping for both systems to ramp up for the new consoles, but they are staying pretty mum and hype is dissipating. Hopefully whether at E3, or elsewhere Sony and MS start doing huge shows with awesome reveals because 2013 this is not.
cuz they are trying to downplay it in light of certain companies or people not being there which is stupid. E3 has always been a great event and the biggest show of the year. I am looking forward to it.

Good luck for those companies who choosed to skip E3 to try their luck on their own with their very closed, safe and controlled enveriomment which leaves us, their fans, in the dark wondering how and when those companies intents to reveal/show something.
I rather have those sweet moment of excitement, anxiety, anticipation, hype and enjoyment once in a year by June.

"Influencer Festival" sounds like youtubers to me. I hope im wrong and E3 is amazing, but with that info and everyone jumping ship, it doesn't sound good.
E3 is less about games than Gamescom. E3 is a press event for the industry. It is less about getting games into the hands of players and more about showing off to reporters.
So maybe wait for an answer next time before incorrectly answering your own question.

Those same companies skipped E3 last year to "try their luck on their own", over a hundred million consoles sold later seems it worked out just fine thanks for your concern though. FYI E3 isn't the only show the whole year so no fans are in the dark but nice try.

How many games are revealed at E3 vs. Gamescom? E3 is about the games, Gamescom is about the fans. The vast majority of the games that people get hands on with at Gamescom were revealed at E3.

I really don't get why people prefer to be drip fed reveals throughout the year. I don't mind the few reveals that happen during the big conferences (PAX, Gamescom, etc.) but I will always prefer one singular event with huge amounts of reveals that I can look forward to once per year. Just seems to me that when you drip feed stuff, the only people who are really going to see it are those hardcore, dedicated fans who scour the internet for every bit of news they can find about their plastic of choice.
Maybe E3 does need some kind of update, or maybe it is just the changing of the times and we have to accept it, just like everything else. Until then, I will always look forward to E3 and once it goes away, I can only hope something similar takes it's place.

Youtubers help promote games and depending on the youtuber provide point of views and or opinions that help you understand the passion behind the game. I see nothing wrong with youtubers or content creators getting shine at E3. I can assure you it all come back to games.
If you like E3, enjoy it, no problem with that but don't come with double standards and criticize those persons and companies who chooses to skip E3.
I think there will be stuff to enjoy even if Sony isn't there. If not, then maybe those people are getting too hung up on their console preference. We may not get some nice tidy conference that we want, but there should still be plenty of news coming out of it all. If you take away all the spectacle, then maybe some of the actual news and announcements that go under the radar normally can get some more attention. All I really recall from last year was this narrative that Sony won without even showing up, and a couple of Square's games. Take away that console war narrative, and there should be hundreds of things to read about. We won't talk about them, because we seem to not talk about games here much, but at least the news will be out there.
