Microsoft allows Cross Network Play

The world’s largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event, GDC, started out with one hell of a bang.Chris Charla, Director of [email protected] made a bombshell announcement that will forever change the way we play video games online. Microsoft has done the unthinkable, and is now allowing cross-network online play between Xbox One, Windows 10, and other competing consoles.

The story is too old to be commented.

TBH, I think they are only doing it to open the doors and blur the lines between their Xbox Exclusives and PC Exclusives. They may take it a step further making developers develop for both and bridging the online experience together. I'm pretty doubtful that they will allow PS4 gamers to play Xbox One gamers. The reason why people buy xbox is because they started out on 'xbox original' and their friends are still faithful to the brand some of the gamers have both consoles. To allow them to play their PS4 and play against people on the Xbox will kill their sales dramatically seeing that there's no reason to buy an xbox anymore really. Other than 1 cool exclusive every 4 or so years, wait nevermind you could buy those on PC now. Yep no reason still.

It would be really cool if third parties followed suite and made an effort to make all of their online multiplayer games cross-console as well.
That way there would never be a worry about being able to find a match with someone.
Although, the downside is that that might also put a boat-load more stress on servers...
