Tom Clancy's The Division Review | Gamespot

Gamespot:

Gunshots make a very particular sound in a desolate city. The noise ricochetes off buildings, echos down alleyways, seems to come from every direction at once. It means danger could come from anywhere at any time, but it also means there's more work to do. So when I step out of a safehouse and steel my nerves, I also grin, just a little. This is the world of The Division, an online, loot-driven RPG cleverly disguised as a third-person shooter, set in the grim aftermath of a biological attack on New York City.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMM. Something is really wrong here. HMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

antz11043335d ago

Really? 8 out of 10 is wrong? Because you don't agree? It's a great game I'm really enjoying myself so far. I believe 8/10 is well deserved.

TwoForce3335d ago

Well, I agree. The game deserve an 8.5 for me.

Saigon3335d ago (Edited 3335d ago )

8 out of 10 for me as well, this game is actually good. I am not certain what some people want from this game, so to each their own.

N311V3335d ago

8/10 is a great score. I like TD a lot but it's not perfect, it's an easy 9+ for me.

3-4-53335d ago

8/10 = a game worth playing.

Always has meant that.

ichdich3335d ago

About 12/13 hours in, game has become rather repetitive, PvE driven content is dull, PvP content can either be tough and fast paced or just repeatedly get stomped on. The story tries to deliver a realistic modern apocalypse however the bullet sponge enemies really ruin the atmosphere. Not exactly worth retail value, I personally regret my purchase at launch.

Immorals3335d ago

Nearly 24 hours in so far and it's still feeling fresh and fun. As for bullet sponge enemies, it wouldn't work if they all had low hp!

pompombrum3335d ago

While true, they could make the boss fights a little more engaging than just being bullet sponges to stay away from. Agreed though, I've put in about 40 hours and still really enjoying the game.

antz11043335d ago

You can't have rpg qualities without bullet sponge enemies. Otherwise what's the point of leveling up your character and weapons?

hells_supernova3335d ago

This was my issue after the beta. Kept me from buying it. It was fun with friends but just the gameplay seemed shallow.

Maybe if it had been more tactical and less spongy and if the AI actually posed a threat. I do not feel like unloading a clip into each enemy.

mezati993335d ago

i wish there was a free Trial for this :( , missed the open beta and i don't want to waste my money on this since i hate MMOs

sarlucic3335d ago

It is not a MMO. It is a game with strong solo/co-op focus. You are alone in the world outside of hubs. You can play the open world with friends/randoms if you invite them to your party. Think Diablo/destiny. For missions, you can be in a group of maximum 4 players. This is not required, you can play the entire game solo, but I would not recommend it. The game is very much like a diablo type game, a cover based borderland is the best description i heard. Your equipment is key, it make all the difference between enemies on higher difficulty. If you have bad equipment they can survive thousand of shoots. If you are really well equipped they go down on less than one clip. On easy enemies die really fast and its well, way too easy.

OpieWinston3335d ago

Thanks to intense phasing, you aren't running into anyone else unless you're in a Safe Zone or the Dark Zone.

So you can play through the whole game by yourself or one friend aslong as you stay away from the Dark Zone.

HueyNewton20083334d ago

Buy this game, you won't regret it. This is the best co-op console game i have ever played.

pompombrum3335d ago

I think the review is nearly spot on. It's such a beautifully crafted world and the missions feel engaging. Enemies might be a little predictable but it doesn't really detract too much from the solid tactical co-op experience there is to be had.

My only real gripe is the DZ. Going rogue is far too punishing to the point where outside of having fun, there's very little advantage to be had from it which turns the only real pvp mode into a pve grindfest.

WellyUK3335d ago

Your problem is the reason I haven't and will not buy this game as the PvP just is not there and I wanted an open world with PvP like what was shown in the first trailer for the game.

pompombrum3335d ago

Open world pvp this most certainly isn't, I've spent about 15 hours in the DZ and the only pvp there is to be had is when players deliberately try and make people go rogue.

The developers do seem to be doing a great job listening to player feedback though, hopefully they have or will make plans to properly implement pvp at some point for those of us who crave it. I know I certainly won't be sticking around for much longer if I can't get my pvp fix.

Oschino19073335d ago (Edited 3335d ago )

If you want it to feel easier going rogue get to level 30 and run with a group that coordinates skills/talents/perks. Going rogue is meant to be challenging and difficult especially until level 30 and or with a well coordinated group. This is Tom Clancy not COD.

As for missions, again, wait till 30 and challenge mode, it requires a team of well coordinated players working tightly together. Also while free roaming for loot/materials at 30 makes different things show up in certain areas of map. The game truly starts at 30 just like Diablo at 70 and story completion.

Daily/weekly events coming soon too.

InMyOpinion3335d ago

Playing it with friends is a 10 for me, while playing it solo is an 8 or a 9.

PsylentKiller3335d ago

Exactly. This is a great game to hang out with friends. The Division, with its limited open world, does what it does well. It's. It is not GTA. There are not a million things to do or million places to go, but that's OK. There is something to be said about simplicity and Ubisoft has refined simplicity with The Division.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183753d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot753d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno753d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic753d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman752d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon752d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
