Paranormal Activity VR Game Debuts at GDC, SXSW

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco March 14-16 will serve up the worldwide premiere of the latest Paranormal Activity horror. But after six films earning over $889 million at the global box office since 2009, the next chapter in the found footage horror genre is available exclusively in virtual reality.

This could be a scary experience.

Remember to wear brown pants.

BigBosss2819d ago

This, Allison Road and this one other horror game I am definitely looking forward too!

"If your experience lasts longer than 4 hours, call your doctor right away as this may be a sign..."

Best reply I've read all day, lmao

I can't help but think people don't understand just how much of PT's brilliance was down to the artistry of the two brilliant directors behind it and not due to some kind of simple repeatable formula.

lipton1012818d ago

I hear you man. I'm down with simple and scary, but good horror is always about something deeper, never pure formula. The monster is an allegory and vehicle for social commentary.

Great examples: Babadook (mental illness), It Follows (How choices made in our youth will always slowly follow us), Night of the Living Dead (zombies = "silent majority", hence casting choice of black main character [late 60's societal oppression]). Countless examples.

Hopefully this resurgence takes an active role in telling an actual story - both at face value and in a 'read between the lines' kind of way. Horror is always a disrespected genre. PT was brilliant. It's spectacle was minimal. Kojima told a story there. And it's not just about "Lisa" or the ghosts. Maybe it's about being stuck in the same place with no escape. Maybe it's him saying that conditions got worse with every new game (hence the circular loop). That the horror of fast money capitalism overtook the creative process. PT is an excellent example of "good" horror.

These types of games are what will make VR shine IMO. I love that horror is making a comeback.

That sounds disgusting. It reminds of the when my friends and I had gaming nights as a kid. There was always the one kid with sweaty hands and a greasy, nasty controller, lol.

Up next, Cheeto Dust Pro Controller w Limited Edition MD Game Fuel Essence.

VenomUK128d ago

Microsoft should make an Xbox-player scented controller - that will give owners a taste of their own medicine.

I feel sorry for the Chinese factory worker that have to rub their hands on pizza grease before putting the game together.

Another day, another Xbox Controller announced.

Jin_Sakai128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Nope. Unfortunately.

LucasRuinedChildhood127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

I fear Phil Spencer-scented controllers may be coming next.

... God help us all.

DarXyde127d ago

I think the community would adore that idea and it would sell phenomenally.

I'm talking trash (obviously), but I would be lying if I said I don't think there's a bizarre executive worship that goes on in Xbox circles. I really don't get it.

shinoff2183128d ago

I see why they buying publishers. They can't make games cause their tied up on the controller part

Sitdown128d ago

Yeah, a company with that many employees and that much money has a singular focus on controllers. Oh boy.

sinspirit128d ago

You say that like it's sarcasm but it's what's actually been happening for a over decade. Dozens of limited edition controller releases and exceptionally low game output along with disappointing game quality when the games do come.

shinoff2183128d ago

Look up xbox controllers and you'll see , sit down. It was half sarcasm anyway so just relax and squeeze

Sitdown127d ago

And the purpose of me looking up xbox controllers would be what? Because releasing multiple controllers doesn't mean their whole division is tied in that. You say half sarcasm...it either it is or it isn't. But look at your agrees, and even the comment that was made. Clearly there is a group that believes it to be true. Sooo, perhaps you should just relax and squeeze, because if you can be sarcastic, why can't I?

INMATEofARKHAM128d ago

Today's sign of the impending apocalypse? 🤣
