One of the key features of the Sony's Xperia range of smartphones is the ability to remote play your PS4 games anywhere in the house via the phone.
Unfortunately it's wasted as long as it's not available on the Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phones.
But with Sony announcing Remote Play is coming to PC and Mac, could this be about to change?
Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki and CFO Lin Tao talked about the state of the PlayStation business and the strategy and targets going forward, including how they're responding to the tariffs.
Sony announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2024, and things are certainly looking up, despite a decline in PS5 sales.
If their profits fall next quarter, we'll probably see more price hikes. I can't imagine having to pay £20 a month for PlayStation Plus.
Decline in hardware sales.
Behind on lifetime sales and decline in first party sales.
Third party content and PSN came through to save the day.
Things will improve starting with the next Ghost game.
Hopefully a steady flow of first party content by end of '25
PlayStation 5 has shipped 77.8 million units worldwide, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025.
very nice.
in almost 5 years too.
some big hitters are yet to come
Sony may keep this feature exclusive to its Xperia brand of phones on the mobile front. They must be doing this to give their brand of phones an edge over the competition.
There isn't even a standard Remote Play app on every Android device yet. Although there is a work around to do so, it's still not official. It's too big a jump to think that all iOS devices will receive this feature.
For now we'll start with Remote Play coming to PC and Mac this Spring and see where it goes from there.
Is gear vr wasted for only being on Samsung devices? Is the apple store wasted for not being on an android device?
Maybe Sony is trying to give customers an incentive to buy their products before branching out to put remote play on PC, tablets, other cellphones, TVs, etc.
We can say anything is wasted for not being on something else. Like Xbox games not being on PlayStation. Or Nintendo games not on mobile. Remote play is Sony's feature and a very good one when Wi-Fi is good.I believe there are more PCs out there than Sony's competitor apple has Iphones on the market.
I think starting on a bigger PC market is preferable for them to start with.
Streaming games isn't that great anyway until they figure out how to deal with latency. Some games work out but others require low latency
Linux support, please!
It's available on any android phone for almost since it launched on xperia. No root required. Tough luck for iphone
