"Is Microsoft still committed to the Xbox brand?"

No. They are mostly interested in pushing Windows 10. That's where the money is.

Hoffmann3397d ago

PFFF never. Windows is totally comitted to the Xbox brand as the recent developments and their actions cleary show.

They said that not even all xbox one games by them and their bought or hired studios will get windows 10 ports.

This means the xbox continues to have a few exclusive games.

Thats proof enough to know that MS is very committed to the Xbox brand.

Edit, typed a terrible typo in the first line, meant Microsoft of course and not Windows ;-)

@URNightmare I suppose you are a very sarcastic person!

When we first saw MS walk into the scene ages ago many thought that was their moment to monopolize the gaming industry and bring it to PC exclusively. Well it appears as though this generation was supposed to be in as last generation the 360 took control America. However its not working out so well the way they wanted with how far they are lagging behind and how many poor choices are making along the way. The PC community is the Steam Community and as Games for Windows failed, so will this.

hells_supernova3396d ago

I do not mean to burst your bubble but the next Xbox will run windows 10 and be a living room PC. Love it or hate it that is the future of xbox.

Hopefully they pull off some cool modular pc build and give people options on specs etc but in an easy to handle console style package

I think they are trying to bow out slowly.

rainslacker3396d ago

I think they're currently leveraging Xbox to gain support for Windows, and the Xbox brand will turn into a service going forward. Many Xbox fans seem to be OK with this, so more power to them I guess, even though I am unsure if they realize that's what's happening.

I doubt the console hardware itself will cease to exist, although it may not exist in the same form as it is now...but only time will tell how that plays out.

Gazondaily3396d ago

Highly doubt they'd like to 'bow out' at all.

Crazy isn't it; they make a PROPER commitment to PC and the doom and gloom brigade chime in instantly.

miyamoto3396d ago

Just as I predicted. PlaySaviour 4 is saving the gaming industry as we speak.

Free_Fro3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Simple and short answer: Yes.

There are games in the pipeline. .

This question isn't for Xbox fans tho'...
We know who the target audience is, to get that attention ^_^

The Xbox brand won't be going away anytime soon, and MS is still committed....to the Xbox BRAND. Now, some people have concerns about the Xbox CONSOLE, but only time will tell. I personally look forward to see what MS will do here.

wakeNbake3396d ago

They can keep their commitment as long as I get to play Gears of War 4 in 1440p ultra settings.

GameBoyColor3396d ago

Hopefully it will be optimized and without gimpworks unlike UE

Glad, I’m about to downgrade when they raise the price. For me, I don’t really access much or care about the games they have in the library and if I do, it’d be cheaper to just buy them over time rather than stick to some expensive subscription model.

crazyCoconuts6h ago

When you're new to the service you've got an avalanche of games to play. After you catch up, I agree, it's not worth it beyond the Essential tier for me.
That being said, the Essential tier is the best deal in console gaming imo, based on the monthly games you get to keep.

Profchaos28m ago

Yeah same will be downgrading $214 aud is insane and we don't even get the streaming capabilities in Australia which they said would make the top level subscription cheaper.

If i was to just buy the games I actually play that come to the service id be far better off.

Ill keep the essential tier to retain the games ive collected since the ps3 and for mp but I'm not convinced of the premium tiers value any more

Alos887h ago

Extra is probably the best value for money right now, Premium doesn't have anything special enough to justify paying the additional imo.

OtterX6h ago

*unless you have a Portal & you catch Premium on discount during Days of Play or Black Friday.

Yea, I really do wish they'd up their effort on Premium titles, but allowing a large catalog of titles that can stream to your Portal without even having to use your PS5 is pretty awesome. We travel about 2 hours to stay with my inlaws from time to time, so it's been pretty killer to only need to take my Portal for that!

andy856h ago

Yup if you have a portal premium is the best tier for sure

jznrpg7h ago

Add some more classics with trophies. Vagrant Story first

OtterX6h ago

Nice choice. I agree!

Jeanne D'Arc was my favorite PS+ catalog title from last year & I Platinumed it!

Eonjay4h ago

I like Ridge Racer, Tekken and Grandia. Add Xenogears, digimon World 3, Classic GTA and ill be happy

jznrpg2h ago

Jeanne D’Arc was great!

@Eonjay there is a Grandia collection available for PS4, I’m not sure if it’s been on plus already or not

darthv727h ago

cloud streaming to the portal, without using the ps5, is the selling point of premium to me.

Obscure_Observer6h ago

If the consumers are happy, Sony is even happier.

It is what it is.
