I think that's the problem. You could sell it as a new curiosity IP without the branding and everything would be fine. But nope, they went with Metroid

It could of just been called Federation force. Knowledgable fans would immediately know it takes place in the Metroid universe even if Metroid and Prime weren't in the title.

Pretty much. Heck, they could even drop a few references and Samus-themed gear in there and people would still be cool with it.

I can imagine there would be temptation to use the brand name in order to hit sales figures, but i don't think they ever expected this reaction.

@PixelGateUk I don't get how they couldn't have expected negative feedback. The art-style is chibi and goes against the dark high sci-fi designs seen in proper Metroid Prime games. The game also simply looks low budget and cheap.

Seeing more of the gameplay, I wish they had marketed this in a better way, like Final Fantasy Explorers did. Ultimately, it's Monster Hunter-ish gameplay with a scifi Metroid style, like FFEX was Monster Hunter with a FF skin. Chuck in more Metroid fanservice, and people would buy it. But from the off, they took it away from the source, while they kept the Metroid name. So strange.

Exactly. I think it's a mixture of the game being revealed at the wrong time too. People went into E3 hoping for a true new Metroid, fresh off the underwhelming back of Other M. Instead of a genuine Metroid they got this spin off...which showed pretty 'blugh' gameplay footage upon its reveal.

I still have time for the game personally, but i can understand the negative feeling towards it

I'm honestly still happy to play the game, but i get why people are annoyed.

Hopefully they'll release a demo or two so people get hands on with the game, feels like the best thing they could do at this point...aside from dropping the Metroid prefix lol

I really don't understand the hate tbh. From what i can see this is a 4 player online/co-op, MOBA where everyone has different classes and attributes, with puzzles and exploration, all set in the Metroid Prime universe but also expanding the lore of said universe. That sounds amazing! The only thing i'm disappointed about is the fact it's only on handheld and not console.

I've seen people complaining that it looks chibi and too cute to be metroid - only because the human characters are stylised. The human characters which you never see 99% of time as they're in armour. Even though the aliens you fight against, landscapes you explore and overall artstyle looks like a Metroid Prime game. The thing is though - that's still a BS argument.

There have been games which have drastically changed their art styles and created stylised characters, as well as completely changing game dynamics - Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Paper Mario (multiple times), Yarn Kirby, Yarn Yoshi and basically any game series which made the transition from 2D to 3D, like, Metroid to Metroid Prime - which people shat all over before it released because it "wasn't what they wanted" and now after a critically acclaimed trilogy of games as well as several spin-off games - including a pinball game which people seem to like - we've reached a point where people can't see Metroid for anything other than the Metroid Prime formula, "no one wanted to begin with."

Alas, it seems they've gone too far this time by putting in online/co-op, which is something people have wanted for a long time in a Metroid game...so..i honestly don't know why people hate this game so much but i do know it reeks of pathetic.

Except for when they already had 2 spin-offs with Hunters and Pinball. The later being a stupid idea which was panned before release, only to go on and then get high reviews and praise from gamers. It was even described as "fully realized and well-tuned hybrid of pinball play and Metroid Prime atmosphere". If a fecking pinball game get such praise, i find it ridiculous and pathetic that Federation Force is getting so much hate. Fanboys are wankers.

When you have a loyal fan base for a game series practically begging you to make another proper installment and you decide you're going to ignore them and do this (which no one ever asked for), your game deserves to fail. I'm not a fan of Metroid personally (I've always been more of a Castlevania kind of guy :D), but I'd be pretty pissed if I were.

The concept it great for a home console, realistic, 1st person, online shooter. But this is just terrible looking even for 3DS.
