Is Metroid Prime: Federation Force Doomed To Failure?

Pixelgate writes:

''Metroid Prime Federation Force exists, and apparently it’s already against the wall. Ever since the initial reveal during E3 2015, fan reaction has been ‘mixed’ to say the least.''

what can I say that mega 64 hasn't already said

Nintendo is trying to market Metroid Prime: Federation to kids because the adult Metroid fans don't appropriate anymore?

Manio313391d ago

There probably wouldn't have been any backlash if the game removed Metroid from the title when they announced it.

PixelGateUk3391d ago

I think that's the problem. You could sell it as a new curiosity IP without the branding and everything would be fine. But nope, they went with Metroid

Sciurus_vulgaris3391d ago

It could of just been called Federation force. Knowledgable fans would immediately know it takes place in the Metroid universe even if Metroid and Prime weren't in the title.

PixelGateUk3391d ago

Pretty much. Heck, they could even drop a few references and Samus-themed gear in there and people would still be cool with it.

I can imagine there would be temptation to use the brand name in order to hit sales figures, but i don't think they ever expected this reaction.

Sciurus_vulgaris3391d ago

@PixelGateUk I don't get how they couldn't have expected negative feedback. The art-style is chibi and goes against the dark high sci-fi designs seen in proper Metroid Prime games. The game also simply looks low budget and cheap.

"There probably wouldn't have been any backlash if the game removed Metroid from the title"

and isn't that just a little bit pathetic?

Everything is doomed according to someone.

In fairness, can you remember the last time a game was met with such fierce rejection from the market it's directly targeting?

It must be a PR nightmare for the team working the respective area

HRD_Games3391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

Seeing more of the gameplay, I wish they had marketed this in a better way, like Final Fantasy Explorers did. Ultimately, it's Monster Hunter-ish gameplay with a scifi Metroid style, like FFEX was Monster Hunter with a FF skin. Chuck in more Metroid fanservice, and people would buy it. But from the off, they took it away from the source, while they kept the Metroid name. So strange.

PixelGateUk3391d ago

Exactly. I think it's a mixture of the game being revealed at the wrong time too. People went into E3 hoping for a true new Metroid, fresh off the underwhelming back of Other M. Instead of a genuine Metroid they got this spin off...which showed pretty 'blugh' gameplay footage upon its reveal.

I still have time for the game personally, but i can understand the negative feeling towards it

DarkOcelet3391d ago

Ninty doesnt seem to get it.

They release a Mario game like everyday and they cant afford to release one Home Console Metroid game?

Its really sad that we wont see a Metroid game on Wii U.

PixelGateUk3391d ago

I suppose there's at least virtual console...the Metroid Prime collection is still pretty top notch.

Feels a bit odd that there's no new Metroid on Wii U mind, the pad felt like it was tailor made for the franchise

DarkOcelet3391d ago

Its a shame really.

And i agree, the pad would have been awesome with a Metroid game.

DefenderOfDoom23391d ago

With a lack of 3rd patry games on the WiU , a Metroid Prime game for the console should have been a priority for Nintendo.
