What we want to see from Nintendo in 2016

Nintendo has been a frequent topic in social discussions for the last few months. We speculate what the gaming giant has been up to over the years and what the company is heading into. However, 2016 is a huge year for Nintendo, mainly because a new console is on the horizon and reportedly coming out this year.

I still want to see GameCube titles added to the Virtual Console

Pogoplay1381d ago

At this point, I'd rather see it happen on the Nintendo NX... IMO, its a bit late for the Wii U.

DarthZoolu1379d ago

It needs NEW games! Not HD Remakes, and the new games need to have modern complexity. We need a real console Pokémon and a huge Metroid game.

PhoenixUp1381d ago

I'd prefer it to be on Wii U. There's no point in completely abandoning the current console base that has supported Nintendo all these years.

Nevers0ft1380d ago

The annoying part is how spectacularly easy it would be to port NGC titles to the Wii U Virtual Console.

- Hardware
- Third party support

Will history repeat itself with NXX? I guess we will all see.

^ this so much this.

I want to see Nintendo put out some seriously beefy hardware.

Unfortunately, you'll likely be setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect Nintendo to offer a home console that has higher-specs than Xbox One or PS4. That's just not what Nintendo is focused on.

To prove this, the following are statements over the course of this generation made by Nintendo's Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto, and also Tatsumi Kimishima that reveal what Nintendo thinks and is interested in terms of hardware design:

Let's start with 2013:

"We just don't care too much about what other companies are doing or are trying to do. Our primary focus is to think about and actually carry out something which [another] company's hardware can never realize." - Iwata, June 2013

2014:

"A unique software experience can always be realized with unique hardware that has a unique interface. That is why I believe Nintendo is, and will be, sticking to these dedicated gaming machines." - Miyamoto, August 2014

"What the other companies are doing makes business sense, but it's boring. The same [multiplatform] games appear on every system. At Nintendo we want an environment where game creators can collaborate and think of ideas for games that could have never happened before." - Miyamoto, November 2014

2015:

"If you only expand upon existing hardware, it's dull. In some shape or form, we're always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person's video gaming life." - Iwata, March 2015

"NX is a brand new concept." - Iwata, June 2015

"What we are always striving to do is to find a way to take novel technology that we can take and offer it to people at a price that everybody can afford. And in addition to that, rather than going after the high-end tech spec race and trying to create the most powerful console, really what we want to do is try to find a console that has the best balance of features with the best interface that anyone can use."

"We like to do things that are unique and different from other companies, but we also don't want to just end up in a race to have the highest-tech specs in a competition to try to find how we get these expensive tech specs to the lowest price of the other systems." - Miyamoto, June 2015

“As far as NX goes, I’ve said it’s different and obviously a new experience." - Kimishima, December 2015

As one can see, Nintendo has been very consistent and adamant about what it wants to do and what it doesn't care about. Of course, it is anyone's guess as to what NX will turn out to be in terms of handheld or home console release first, let alone what kind of hardware capabilities it will have. However, in all likelihood, Nintendo will only seek to make NX home console on par with current-gen xbox one and ps4 hardware power in order to be competent enough to acquire third party ports using the new, and more powerful current-gen third party in-house and licensed game engines.

I dont need a history lesson on Nintendo Ive been a gamer for 3 decades and I own every nintendo console but the Wii and Wii U because they're garbage.

Philface1379d ago (Edited 1379d ago )

@BigDuo: Why would they put much higher tech in the hardware. PC has much higher tech in it but today's consoles are holding it back, no 3rd party developer is doing that much extras for PC (in terms of multi-plat games). It's absolutely enough for NX to be on pair with the other two (or MAYBE a bit higher), 3rd partys wouldn't put extra graphics or something in the games on NX, that they look like completely other games.

I just wanna see some Zelda WII U footage. Oh and Pokemon s&m footage (the games you sick freaks)

Pogoplay1380d ago

I saw on a Reddit thread people trying to call it Pokemon SuMo, oh boy. Haha

Concertoine1380d ago

Pre-order bonus is pikachu handcuffs

Moonman1380d ago

More greatness in software and some kick ass hardware...lol

blawren41380d ago

Just an actual announcement on NX. Tired of rumors. No point to them except to cause disappointment when nintendo completely goes the other way. That being said, GameCube VC. I never owned a GameCube.

BigDuo1379d ago (Edited 1379d ago )

I'd like to see that as well, but it doesn't sound likely because it would naturally take away development resources from Nintendo when it can focus on more important things like making releasing new titles while taking advantage of utilizing its next-gen streamlined development between handheld and home console. Besides, even if GC were added, we'd probably be lucky to see up to 5 games released for it in total.
