Literally modern day witch hunts. These people have no way to defend themselves, and these accusers have no proof.
No claim to whether the story is true or not, but I agree that it's a scary time in society. The accused have such difficulty defending themselves. If they lash back, GUILTY. If they stay humble, GUILTY. The burden now is on the accused to prove it false and beyond all doubt or else GUILTY. Once the initial story comes out it's all outrage and a call for blood. Even if or when the accusations are found false, it's too late and that story never makes the front page. The damage has been done and recovery of credibility is so hard. Denzel Washington said, "the media is all about getting it out fast, no matter who it hurts or if it's even true. Just say it, sell it!" Think what you want with the Jussie Smollet's hoax or Harvey Weinstein's egregious behavior, "sexual crime" and now "racism" accusations are on the rise and it has blown past MeToo/TimesUp and all those other #movements into a dangerous time for people.
Not literally anything of the sort. They literally burnt witches to death. There are very few repercussions for many of these cases.
There’s also very little to gain from making false claims, nobody does this shit for attention, as you get an army of angry “but what if..” crazies attacking you. Also, people tell others when stuff happens, people witness stuff. Try empathy for the other side too. What proof would you deem satisfactory?
Also at least one of the devs accused recently gave a damn good apology and fessed up to being an asshole to his employees, that will definitely serve him well going forward.
Not dismissing or agreeing on what’s happened as innocent until proven guilty but I knew someone like Leigh Alexander would be involved somehow 🙄

Women in the indie dev and game journalism scene learn about asshats in the indie dev scene from mutuals. Of course the same characters keep reappearing. Well known sympathetic people (who’ve also been victims of elements of industry culture) will attract more whispers.
