The Traditional Ubisoft-Style Open-World Game Needs to Go Away

i love the formula. I'm a completionist, so i find the games really fun to track progress and such, clearing out one area 100% then moving on to the next.

I love doing 100% too in games but there is one problem, when that 100% requires me to do the same thing over and over then there is a problem.

Ubisoft games are very repetitive

Yes. Ubisoft all great announed projects are open world games, which become a flaw on release. Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed, Far Cry etc.

Assassin's Creed is a series with massive potential but fails to create anything grand. The premise is fantastic although the series needs a reboot in my opinion.

I agree. I do want them done right, where it's not to much repetition. But good open world games offer more value to me personally. The division will be one of them

Far Cry 4 and, it seems, Primal, Dragon Age Inquisition, Assassin's Creed/Batman/Mordor, and as much as I hate to say it, Fallout 4, all eventually felt like a let down. The thing is I refuse to believe that I just don't like open world games, I'm playing Divinity: Original Sin right now, and I love it. Witcher was pretty great, (felt bored occasionally), It's been a minute, but I remember GTA5 and Far Cry 3 fondly. The thing that all those games have in common is that I enjoyed the story, and the narrative in general. Slogging through Far Cry Primal right now, and I don't really feel emotionally connected to anything, all the quests feel like a chore.

Seems like the guy who's writing this thinks he can judge for the world. There are many millions that would disagree and no matter what any hater says . We still love them.

They have worked for so long and will continue to work, what's more important is that they need to evolve on console and become more like the division which is as close to an mmorpg open world game on pc as you can get. Yeah there some bad open world games but there are many amazing ones to..

Console developers need to just make there open world.games bigger and actually create more features within these open world mmo's. When you've played games like wow,rift and guild wars you know full well the standard they set to begin with, console mmo's have never had that much content in them. But here with the division maybe console devs will take note of ubisofts and the devs work on the division because for a console player it is and will be the best one yet and as close to pc mmo's to date. An rpg fan would have to be.mad to not bu the division, with all those brilliaint pc mmo mechanics that make them so worth while dumping hundreds if not thousands of hours into.

I doubt for a while we will see another title like the division on console but hopefully I'm wrong and.other devs let the info sink in as ubisoft took full advantage of what activision failed at with Destiny.

But really I don't see what the arguement is here. Open world games are more exciting than your avarage linear game, or a game that has dried up, take fps game for instance or sports games, a so called graphical upgrade and few new little features but it's still the same boring game that went dry when you stopped playing.

The problem lies that on console developes/publisher have forgotten how to work and develop so much, but they have learnt how to get greedy in the process. Charging more for less has become a new low for pubs/devs but they're getting away with it.

I have always said the industry now it has changed needs a body that protects customers, there isn't one and the multi billion pound industry is unchecked and unguarded leaving us customers to have nothing but trust for our pubs and devs which is very hard at times. The only way to sort this industry out is by law developers and publishers have to submit there work to a governing body for it to be analysed and if it's not to standard then they get it delayed till it's sorted. The governing body should consist of gamers themselfs cus we know what to look for, don't put rich bitch snobs in or games would end up being even more flawed.

Buy saying all that, as consoles become more closer to pc's, so to will the amount of work get higher that goes into games. Eventually maybe next gen or gen after we will see games being made to the standard of content like games like wow being made that are as big as wow but being made for our consoles.

But to say entirely they should be given a rest of just halt production of open world games is compete nonsense, without these games coming out and developers trying to test new ways to improve them, nothing would ever change. Games evolve overtime but to have that evolution, there needs to be advancements in all areas that includes creation just as much as the tech side of it all.

Things Ubisofts could do to improve their games:

-Custom characters
-More levelling choices
-Branching stories
-Mixing up the sidequests to be more interesting/unique
-Better soundtracks

But they will do none of these, because they have forgotten how to make good games.

Why? Because you don't like it? Because haters don't like it? I like Ubisoft-Style games and I need it. Sure Witcher 3 is fuller, has more meaningful quests etc. But (to be honest) it is a little too much for me. Internet is full of "REAL gamers", people who think they know everything about gaming and can tell other people which game is good, which isn't. I like Ubi-style open world games, I love all AC, now I have a wonderful time with FC Primal, and I will buy more. If you don't like it, buy Witcher, Phantom Pain, or anything you like (in fact I love MGSV:PP, too).

Ubi fans don't tell CDP RED or Kojima to stop doing games the way they do, so why you want to deprive us of Ubi-style games?

Frankly i feel like critics whenever given the chance to speak freely all claim they dislike open world games in general. Sure, youll hear these fancy words in their reviews and first impression videos but outside of that whenever you listen to a podcast or whatever its always "It was alright......kinda".

What I want to see more often is actual levels that are more open. Games like GTA and AC are fine the way they are and it might be interesting for a spin off halo or splinter cell to go full open world, what I mainly look forward to in a game is 12 to 20 environments that look and feel different from another that Also offer different ways to complete the objective. Certain levels in killzone shadow fall and Halo do it and Splinter cell to a certain degree has it as well.

I love GTA for what it does but I don't want a GTA halo edition. I expect a more evolved linear game at least for the main titles. A more bigger Halo ODST is welcomed tho.
