DOOM SnapMap – Infinite Possibilities, Endless Content

Bethesda:
I’m playing a game of tower defense. Only I’m a moving turret. Holding a plasma rifle. Shooting demons. From Hell. And the best part? I’m playing DOOM.

Welcome to Onslaught, one of the dozens of modes created by the development team using SnapMap – DOOM’s powerful but easy-to-use game and level editor. In Onslaught, four players work together (while competing for resources) to stop wave after wave of progressively tougher demons. In between levels, we’d warp to a store to spend our credits on better weapons and power-ups. It was during these fleeting trips away from the battlefield (with a timer counting down the seconds before the next wave would begin) that we’d engage in some light strategizing – one of us might grab a Combat Shotgun, another might swap out his Chaingun for a Rocket Launcher.

Tech & designing levels, game play is all well above my pay grade but am excited that the tools have been given to the players.
This game is really shaping up to be a beauty!!

That's what I thought too. In playing around with Halo 5's Forge for a while though, I found that it's fairly straight forward as long as you take things slow. Also, creating a test map that you can revisit helps make it easy to showcase how to script more complex behaviors.

I've said it before, the problem is Sturgeon's Law - "90% of everything is crap." How will people *find* the good stuff? Infamous 2 had very powerful creation tools as well, and some really excellent missions were built, up to an including other gameplay styles. But it was never curated properly, so it was hard to find the good stuff. What's the plan for that?

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Weird games in general we don't get enough of, we need more games like Katamari and Mr domino, things like that
