Sony Dev: PSVR Demo Blunder At PSX Was Due To A Hardware Failure, Spectator Mode Has A Future

Remember the hilariously bad PlayStation VR demo that Sony showed off at PSX last year? Well according to Sony’s Richard Marks it was due to a "hardware failure."

Flamebait title. Not surprised as to the source.

1nsomniac3398d ago (Edited 3398d ago )

?? Flambait because Sony's own Richard Marks explained why the issue in the title happend??

I hate Gamingbolt as much as the next guy but this bizarre homoerotic fanboyism to defend anything that even sounds negative about Sony is scary crazy from you guys!

donthate3398d ago (Edited 3398d ago )

I would have though this is welcome news that it was a hardware failure as opposed to product failure....

Even if it worked correctly it would have been a yawning presentation. Richard Marks did the same boring thing with PS Move presentation. Yawn!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like Richard Marks as he seems to be a down to earth guy that doesn't embark on a PR speech, but if he could just be a little bit more interesting and show some enthusiasm and passion!

Flamebait? More like thunderbait.

You know cuz the source... Nvm, ill show myself the door

Believe me, have read a lot worse jokes on the site. Bubz

Still. We need to commend Sony for always doing real demos during live conferences. Some companies would just fake it using actors to show a perfect demo and then release it with half the functionality

It was fairly obvious what happened. But I didn't hold it against Dr Marks because I've seen him and Anton Michailov do excellent presentations.

Just because they messed up one time doesn't negate all the successful demos they have done over the years. Dr Marks doesn't seem to be a man who tries to mislead you with actors and misleading speak. He seems down to earth. And I always respected him for that.

And judging by what others have actually PLAYED of PSVR, and that's developers, journalists and gamers, his misstep was more of a "just got to laugh it off because sh*t happens" kind of thing. Uncharted glitched at E3. Don't see anyone holding it against Naughty Dog for it. Dr Marks even poked fun at himself at Vision Unity 2016.

It wasn't a big deal for the fans. Only the haters looking for VR to fail and make a mountain out of it.

It does matter when they are trying to sell a new product to consumers.

Sony needs to have a big successful showing of PSVR before it's launch. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and nail the next one.

Really they just need to show off a killer app, and have an amazing demo. Have No Man's Sky working in VR on stage and people will lose their minds. It would be awesome.

ApocalypseShadow3398d ago (Edited 3398d ago )

Sony has been having successful showings of VR for some time now. That's why gamers are excited for it.

They know it works. No fake actors playing with Milo, no fake pantomime of star wars figures on stage, no misleading "it's holograms" bull with misleading FOV. They're just being real about what it can do. When you try it, you see what it can do.

As I said, one glitch among many successful showings and hands on experiences meant nothing to me. I got the gist that he was trying to convey what TRON could be like in VR. And if you actually watch the presentation, you can clearly see the audience and hear the audience laughing with him on the fail.

The ones looking for it to fail at something finally got their snickering in from live steam. But totally ignore the rest that they seen. That doesn't make sense to me to hold on to that one thing.

Software failure = meh, it can be quickly fixed.
Hardware failure = uh oh...

That is like Xbox or Playstation showing off their next console and and it overheating during a demo... hopefully they can resolve the issue and not push the hardware too much

XanderZane3398d ago

Hardware failure is never a good thing. I hope they get that fixed and tested thoroughly before the E3 and the launch of PSVR.
