Pokemon 20th anniversary: The very worst Pokemon designs

Without strong character design, the Pokémon series wouldn't be anywhere near as successful. As phenomenal as the series' underpinning game design is, if audiences 20 years ago hadn't been presented with a colourful cast of characters that appealed, and which they wanted to collect, train and battle – none of it would have worked.

Klefki...LOL

Oh my god I've never seen that one before. They had a Pokemon which looked like a keyring

Why are they bothering wasting their time with mega evolutions when some of the designs for the actual core Pokemon in a game are terrible

WiiWareWave3368d ago

Oh Ive always loved these lists.

The ice cream cone, sundae
Lamp, chandler

Magnets, a pokeball, slime, a mime...

all the generations have their handful of bad designs.

FreeSpeech693368d ago

Literally Garbage though. At least Toxic Slime could cause damage.

Magnemite was not just a magnet though, it's not like the design was like this

Voltrob and Electrode I kind of get

Slime...well come on it's not that bad. Toxic mutated goo. I can get past that

A mime...based off a mine but not actually like one

Besides I think at the end of the day, most of them had more effort put into them then the newer ones.

Is anyone expecting anything less? It will be exclusive to Switch 2 eventhough it will still look like a 3DS game

Inverno19d ago

I think the 3DS games look better than anything GF released on Switch.

--Onilink--19d ago

To be fair, The Pokemon Company operates quite independently, so it wouldn’t have been that strange for a Pokemon game coming out in just the 2nd year of the S2’s life to still be crossgen. I mean, just how long into the PS5 and SX life are we and we are still seeing plenty of crossgen stuff

gold_drake19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

not surprised.

nintendo was prepared to have some games sell the console.

im sure the game will still look like its from the ps2 era tho.

coldfire98418d ago

that is in part because of the chip shortage when everyone over reacted to sars in 2019.

Kosic19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I've lost interest in pokemon, the mega evolve stuff was a poor digimon rip off, then the stuttering mess the 3d versions are.
I'd love a remake of gold/silver in a top down view like lets go pikachu had, but sticking with the traditional pokemon mechanics.

CrimsonWing6918d ago

Uh, yea, that’s how console generations are supposed to work…
