In the case of Street Fighter, even if casuals are important I don't think it's them who managed to keep it alive last gen.
It was the pro-fighters and the tournaments popularity which achieved that. And thus, the craze brought by the tournaments enticed CASUALS to go back to those fighting games.
This said, it's a pity that a game such as SFV that was aimed to gather more casual players, don't even have a challenge mode at launch where you can learn: combos, footsies, throw tech, cross up and so on... I hope they add these kind of tutorials.
Last gen the casuals flocked to Wii as it was most family friendly with a lot of easy to play games and party type games.
This gen the casuals have flocked to ps4 because of the easy to play cinematic type games that don't require much skill.
Who knows what next gen will bring.
But casuals out number core gamers so to sell lots of consoles you need to appeal to the majority which are the "casuals" the key is to find a balance and cater for all audiences.
Im hoping the NX will be the ultimate gaming machine roll on e3.
