Firewatch Review (PS4) - Gamer Pros

While it is easy to criticize the more “thrilling” aspects of Firewatch, it is important to understand that it is largely a humble story about taking a break from the painful consequences of reality. It is about finding a coping mechanism and ultimately collecting yourself. Forming a unique friendship is as much a part of it as physical isolation is. What it leads up to may not be satisfying for those who are seeking a firmly grounded conclusion, but Gamer Pros does not believe that to be the most valuable aspect of the story. Gamer Pros personally felt the ending to be very realistic and human. The journey is more important than the destination for sure, but it’s the experienced emotions that matter most.

No. The story goes off the rails at the end. I really wanted to like the game, and for the first half the atmosphere is excellent, but for the arbitrary and unexplained plot twists in the middle, the conclusion is unsatisfying. Considering the length of the game and issues that I had with the plot, I would not recommend it.

It only took me like 2.5-3 hours to beat it.Of course I rushed because I just wanted it to be over because I was just really disapointed in it. The ending didn't do it any favors either. Unravel is superior in every way imaginable, and I hear more people talking about this pile of crap. How does a game that runs poorly with a huge number of glitches and bugs like Firewatch deserve an 8.5?

I bought it and like it. I really enjoyed it for the most part. The final mystery just seemed like a bummer. I really didn't care about the final reveal in a heartwarming way or anything it was just "blah whatever" to me.

Like "oh that happened, what's the big deal? who cares, we're on firewatch!"

But the first 2/3rd of the game is awesome and intense. The voice acting is spot on throughout the game and you actually analyze the traits of characters. I constantly kept saying to myself through the game that I didn't trust Delilah. Something about her was so strange.

I'll probably run through it again at some point to gain another perspective.

But I think the game is more about the relationship between Henry and Delilah more than it is about the actual mystery that takes center stage.

I'd really like to know how this "game" is doing so well in professional reviews but most people I know and users I see online don't think so fondly of it.

Sure the first 2/3rd's of the game or so are pretty fun but the "twist" and ending are totally lame, lazy, and underwhelming. Out of the handful of people I know personally that played it (including myself) the ending totally ruined the rest of the game. So mundane and cliched in these times we live in.

So yeah, I'd recommend it to people, for sure, but definitely NOT for the price they want for it now. Especially considering it's like a 4 hour game TOPS. Most people I see are finishing before this. I don't really get where they get off asking $20 in the first place, but that's just me.

Regardless, I say play it or watch a let's play on YouTube but either way wait for it to get cheaper and don't expect some stellar conclusion.

Yeah I finished Firewatch in 2.5-3 hours. I agree the game was underwhelming to say the least. Most people reviewing the game are comparing it to indie films, but if it's a crap film like Firewatch who cares? I bought Unravel and I just can't believe it's this game being talked about. Unravel is AMAZING. I'd even argue it's vague narrative is better and more personable than Firewatch. Please people try out Unravel and you'll see what I'm talking about.
