Review: Call of Duty Black Ops III: Awakening DLC - Connected Digital World

Connected Digital World writes: It’s the turn of a new year, and a turn of fortunes for PS4-owning Call of Duty fans. Not only have Treyarch and Activision had their faith in the series rewarded by fans’ overwhelming response to this year’s entry, but the DLC’s timed exclusivity has now switched over to the PlayStation nation. It’s the mostly usual affair with ‘Awakening’, four multiplayer maps (including a remake) plus another entry into the ever popular Zombies saga.

I hope the zombies isn't a continuation of Shadows of Evil. I don't like the drawn-out levels like this. Give me the older round based map designs like Der Riese.

It sort of is that way though, seems they want to make it more of a narrative experience.

Actually, to help calm your nerves, I have played the new zombies map numerous times on PS4, it is so much better. You should be really happy with the new map, I hated Shadows of Evil too, way to chaotic to get pack-a-punch and the special weapons (swords).

This map is much more simple like Der Riese and the older ones. Dogs around round 5, the only "crazy" thing is around round 10 when a Panzer spawns in (same thing from Origins, a zombie in a mech suit) he isn't too hard to kill though. Pack-a-punch is acquired through a simple puzzle that requires literally pressing two buttons then "finding" it. The new "special weapons" of the map are acquired by feeding 3 "beings" zombies, which is done by killing the zombies near them.

Overall, the map is one of the best ones recently made. My best description for it would be Verruckt+Der Riese+Moon all in 1. It has some areas reminiscent to Moon with some really wide open spaces, tight indoor spaces very similar to Verruckt, and a particular atmosphere that I think feels a lot like Der Riese. Is it as good as the older maps? No. But it is a step in the right direction.

Cool, sounds good! I have to wait until next month since I'm on Xbone.
