If one isn't a fan of its IP's then I don't see why one would go for it since that's all that releases for that system. If it isn't evident for its low sales the system only caters to its core fan base.

Who said the IP's were the issue? If its "core fan base" was an issue, the Wii wouldnt have outsold the ps3, ps4, xbox, xbox 360 and the xbox one.
The problem was its lack of 3rd party development and its value for money, the gamepad device jacked the price of the system up. Nintendo should have made the gamepad an optional accessory, dropped the price and just threw in a pro controller, or a new set of Wiimotes for the WiiU, I guarantee it would have sold better.

So you're just going to pretend that the wii didn't succeed because of its casual approach to gaming then. The "core fan base" didn't help it reach 90+ million. That thing sold a ton because everyone and their grandma's had one. You bring up lack of third party support like if the wii didn't have the same problem. Just to be clear I'm not saying the IP's are bad. All I'm saying is that if you aren't a core Nintendo fan that enjoys those IP's then there isn't really a reason for you to purchase that system since that's all that releases on it.

If you look at the exclusives, WiiU owners have a good list. The Wonderful 101, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Xenoblade are some of my favourites.

Sadly no, Nintendo is looking to dump it by the summer or holiday this year. They're 98% focused on NX and 2% focused on the Wii U, they even delayed Zelda so they could have it on the NX.

If you are satisfied with the quality list of games the Wii U currently has and aren't concerned with future support, than sure, buy it. Smash, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, and Mario. Also, Shovel Knight, Wonderful 101, and more.

It's obvious, NX is launching in 2016 giving the Wii U 4yrs. That is incredibly short and an obvious sign that Nintendo is attempting to replace the Wii U as fast as they can. It was a horrible sales flop and Nintendo is moving on.

There are awesome games on the Wii U, but it just hasn't sold. If the Wii U was a success we wouldn't have even heard of the NX yet.

If you're referring to the 3ds, it sold 60 million compared to the Wii U's 12 million. Now 60 million isnt as great as the DS's 155 million, but I think phone/app based gaming may be a large reason for that.
If rumors are true, the NX may be some sort of Console + handheld hybrid, separate but connectable.

There is ZERO evidence that the NX is launching mid-2016, and more than a little evidence, through the way they've handled consoles in the past, to believe that the main unit of the NX will launch in 2017.

And the reason they talked about the NX early was to counter claims that their move into mobile was signaling them dropping out of hardware entirely.

I think their best bet is to have a 9 month marketing window like XONE and PS4 had.

By announcing it this year, which we know Nintendo will consider they opening stated they would talk about NX this year, it would only hurt Wii U sales as they are announcing a platform, while also producing another platform. A year and a half of dry sales isn't really going to help them, they are still a business.

NX likely might be both a handheld and console, ie a handheld that outs to the TV, either physically or with some sort of wireless connection like with the Wii U's gamepad.

Its all just speculation and your post is just as much "misinformation" as no one here is saying for a matter of fact, as suppose to what they "think" or "speculate" might release.

You're delusional, NX is coming 2016 and the reason is bc the Wii U is a historic flop. They have accelerated production on their next console considerably due to the Wii U's ineptitude. Wii U is at 12m units, Nintendo is doing everything they can to separate themselves from this failure. Come 2017 the Wii U is a wasteland.

5 years is Nintendo's standard between the majority of their consoles.
The NX was talked about early to counter rumors of dropping out of consoles for the sake of mobile phone gaming.
There was no "acceleration".
If you'd been paying ATTENTION to what Nintendo has said, you'd know that.

And low sales have never stopped Nintendo from continuing to support their home consoles properly; they've even stated multiple times that they aren't ditching the Wii U, and have even incorporated it into their plans for their new account system.

Sit back down and stop talking until you can properly examine trends without using sales charts as your only evidence.

Technically speaking, that would still be a form of support and they likely just mean, they will still release what was promised, but I don't see them continuing supporting Wii U, especially because of its low install base and they make more money from Software, its kinda hard to do that will a failing platform.

Have you not questioned if they are so supportive of Wii U, why announce NX? Why tell us 2016 they will talk more about NX? We didn't know of PS4's existence until the day it was announced. Yet we are being told pretty much by Nintendo they have a new console to be announced and they are even telling us the code name. Sounds to me like they are seeking to market a new console and put to bed a failed one.

Consider it wouldn't be the first time Nintendo has done this and we are talking about their worst selling system some how being different? Seriously base on what? Look at what they did with Wii, but the least successful is some strange exception?

I'll say this, I think it would be a wise move for Nintendo to include some sort of backwards compatibility with the NX and Wii U. I think a lot of us are eager to see what the NX has to offer, more so just going by statistics many gamer out there have missed out on the Wii U.

Logic says buy a Wii U if you want to play these games, reality says that system is done (because it is). And very few if any or about to drop cash on a systems who's life is ending all the while the NX is on its way, thats just how the industry has always worked from a consumers standpoint.

To put things into perspective, look the beginning of this gen, we saw a whole bunch of remasters and one of the reasons touted was for it was a chance for X Box guys to play some PS3 games they missed out on or vice versa.

Well it isnt even up for debate a lot of us missed out on these Wii U exclusives and it would be one hell of an enticement to play some catch up on the NX.

You've got at least 12 months until that will arrive I reckon it's 2017 myself Nintendo have never been quitters and don't see them starting now, I'm sure we'll here a little about NX at e3 ie some launch titles and rough idea of launch date but it'll be an intial reveal until the following years E3 where they will do a full launch and give us a proper date actual launch titles and we'll have something set in stone, Wii U has at least a year left if not 24 as unless you sell all your other consoles and give up work you'll struggle to get through all the great top notch Nintendo Wii U games in the next 12 months. Prob why I've still got some early launch titles in the backlog ;( they will get done tho as its a great little system, not the best ever sure but still a great system with some truly world class timeless classic games.

Depends what kind of games you like. How many of the top multi platform games have not come to Wii, quite a few. Would you have missed those games, if not then buy one. We bought one when it originally came out because my wife wanted to play the new Mario game. She played it for awhile but has not touched it since then. It has been sitting in the corner collecting dust this whole time while she plays PC games.

I was seriously considering getting a Wii U about this time last year for social purposes like if I have friends over or what not we could play Mario Kart 8 or SSB. I really want to play Zelda U too since it looks really good and I've never played a Zelda game before for more than like 2 hours.

Just not sure it's worth it now with all the talk about the NX and it's potential launch this year or next. Maybe if it gets a significant price drop I'll bite but I'm more than satisfied with having an Xbox and PS4 right now.

The NX is still a high possibility for me though.

If its exclusive library interests you, then yes. You can find awesome deals online and sometimes in-stores. It also has a few awesome multi-platform titles such as the LEGO games and Need for Speed Most Wanted U.

It's a great system for anyone who's simply looking to have fun, and nobody can touch Nintendo in the game creation department. If you like Nintendo titles, you should have already made your decision by now.

Yeah I'll second that been here since day 1 and not been disappointed once. Ok no voice chat in splatoon was a bit rubbish but overal the system is fine sure it's not a top end PC or a PS4 but as you said the games as always from Nintendo are something else. No one makes games like those guys and gals.

The fact is that no one here knows when it will be released, or in what form it will take.

If you have waited this long, then you clearly do not have to play games day one release, so get a Wii U now, enjoy the games and purchase whatever is next when the new games are established. Do this and you will never experience another game drought.

Best games on Wii U IMO include Lego city, DKTF, SMB3DW,Yoshi, Mario Kart 8, XenoBlade X, ZombiU, Splatoon, Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, probably 10 exclusive Indie games worth playing, with Star Fox, Pokken Fighters, Zelda, and FE vs SMT all coming in 2016. If these are games that interest you then the system is well worth the cash. If not then no is probably the answer. Still you are looking at a lot of options for most gamers.

I like my Wii U, but compared to my Xbone and PS4 I certainly have not gotten my money's worth. The game library of classic games is amazing, but I find myself not having enough time to play the new games I want to play - let alone take advantage of all the classics it has to offer.

The Wii U is absolutely worth getting. It is without question the best system this gen. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS4, but I'm still awaiting greatness, while there have been PS4 games I have enjoyed. There have, so far, not been any I would consider great. Xbox is basically dead to me until Crackdown 3 launches.
