Yakuza, Explained In Four Minutes

Yeah, this is pretty much the entire series, in a nutshell.

The story is too old to be commented.

One of my favorite series out there. This video is all from Yakuza 3 by the looks of it. I created my own tribute to the series that I hope sums up the whackiness and goofiness that is Ryu ga Gotoku:

As you can see from this picture, I'm quite a fan :P

I'm a big fan too! Just out of curiosity, how did you like Ishin?

I liked Ishin quite a bit! It was the first Japanese only game that I ever completed. No doubt I missed out on some of the more nuanced aspects of the games mechanics, but I still had a good time all the same. It's pretty incredible how much you can take from the story just by examining body language and such. But yeah, I enjoyed it. If you find it for a good price, I'd say go for it!

Right! I actually bought it on the release date, and still playing it. Haven't completed the main story, but am getting very close. With Ryu Ga Gotoku games (like a dragon, in classical Japanese!) I take my time. I don't do side quests, although they are usually super good. The Japanese is just pretty heavy (I'm around N1 level, but they use all types of dialects in Ishin), so it takes time. I'm one of those guys who cannot overlook a single kanji what I can't read or understand. So progression is slow when there's a lot of classical Japanese in the mix... or stuff like Tosa-dialect. I loved the love-letter translation side quest, though, that was unique. And the Another Life stuff. Damn... that was just so cool.

I'm thinking about the Zero and Kiwami, and probably end up buying them at Bookoff used, they are like 1500yen or 2500yen in a few months.

I haven't played 1, 2 or 5. I'm waiting for Sega to do a remaster for the fifth one. So that would leave 2, if I get Kiwami and Zero, and a possible remaster for 5.

Really looking forward to the 6, because Kitano Takeshi is one of my favourite directors. Seen all movies from him but Outrage. Heard it's pretty Yakuza stuff, like Hana-bi. I hope the 6 is like that!

(I'm a bit drunk. Going to drink with an ex-gangster tonight in a "mexican" bar with some of my Japanese friends here in Tokyo lol!)
