GamesBeat: The Division’s closed beta hands-on: Ubisoft’s blockbuster is overhyped but playable

Dean Takahashi: It was inevitable that Tom Clancy’s The Division from Ubisoft came down to Earth. The game has been hyped ever since Ubisoft unveiled the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2013. Now that Ubisoft has let the press and gamers play its closed beta test, I’ve had a good first look at the gameplay.

"It also has some annoying and strange design flaws, such as enemies that are effectively “bullet sponges,” meaning you have to shoot them an absurd number of times to bring them down"...
So this is now a bad thing? Let me think of all the games that have this....Oh wait just about every game ever made. I could imagine how much fun a game would be if all it took was 2 shots to kill someone. And in a team of 4 everyone fighting to get them. The game is really fun and I can't wait for the full release.

He also complains about not being able to hit people when they get to close. How about using your melee attacks and not your gun? Geez it's like this person has no idea what he's doing.

"In the original gameplay trailer from 2013, the game featured car tires and windows that you could shoot out. You can’t do that now."

Yes you can I even made a video of this and uploaded it on my facebook.

He even complains about when attackers get to close to him that he can't shoot them. How about using the melee attack, it takes 2 hits on normal attackers to bring them down with melee hits.

The bullet sponge part, it's dumb. There are normal mobs (purple health bars) and elites or such (yellow health bars. The normal drop like a dime and you can solo a group of them. The yellow are designed to be killed by a group of people and usually drop better loot / more cash.

The part about windows and tires, you can shoot them though the details did get nerfed a bit (or at least for consoles).

SeanScythe3430d ago

not by much they still break away in shatters and pieces. I shot a police car side windows and it made chunks when shot in the same spots and shattered. I'm on PS4

rdgneoz33430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Yah, the windows still shatter. Looks nice on consoles (PS4), thats why I said "a bit". Though with tires, the only ones that pop are cars. With most of the trucks / construction vehicles / ambulances or such that I've shot up, the tires never pop.

Disagree with bullet sponge complaints. If I can 1-shot everyone then what’s the point of skills, teamwork, and tactics? This isn’t a CoD campaign

FlameBaitGod3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Agree 100% ^^^^^^^

the_dark_one3430d ago

Yep, and besides this isnt just 3th person shooter, its more "mmo" oriented

ABizzel13430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

That's still a ridiculous claim.

The enemies don't need to be 1 shot, but they shouldn't be eating 10 headshot and asking for more. That's ridiculous. I could see a few, but headshot damage is barely any better.

Destiny also has skills, teamwork, and tactics to the same level as the division, but you can still 1 or 2 hit-headshot Tier 1 enemies. The enemies in the Division take too much damage. Not saying they need to be 1 shot / 2 shot like Destiny, but it shouldn't be to the point where you're putting full clips in a single person, and they need to scale damage better based on the number of players in the match.

As far as the title goes overhyped but enjoyable is a better statement. It's a fun game, but there are several things they need to do in updates to make it a really good game.

From watching youtube videos before the beta - I definitely thought the bullet sponge thing looked weird.

After playing it - it really does work. Game isn't supposed to be a twitch FPS. Its an RPG and enemies need to take a beating before they fall

KosherNostra3430d ago

Headshots are still deadly, and some enemies have more body armor than others. Is that "spongey"? I really don't see how that's a problem.

a tom clancy game where you put 5 clips into people and npcs

not a drop of blood

LMAO

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno807d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic807d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman807d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon806d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
