Saturday Morning RPG Review - At $10, There's More Than Meets The Eye | Short Pause

Short Pause: "Hey, remember the 80's? I know I do. The fine people at developer Mighty Rabbit Studios remember too, and it shows; their latest offering on consoles is a tribute to all the things I loved during my youth. In Saturday Morning RPG you play as Marty, a high school student who rides a hover board, but for some reason, still has trouble striking up a conversation with the girl he likes. After receiving a magical Trapper Keeper from a mysterious figure known as The Wizard, Marty gains the ability to turn everyday objects into powerful weapons for fighting evil. Marty uses this power to stop the nefarious plans of Commander HOOD and his minions, in an epic adventure that spans five episodes."

This is one of the most entertaining little RPG's I ever played thanks to the absolutely wonderful nostalgia that it provides. I guess maybe I should use the world "little" though. There are 5 episodes, each feature many enemies, hidden areas, and collectibles to find. Not to mention the developer manages to pack an absurd amount 80's references into each episode, some subtle and some not.

And lets not forget the endless mode (waves of enemies) and the arena mode that has you taking on bosses from the story. I can't get over how much content is here for $10, with cross-buy functionality enabled and a frigging platinum trophy that's no gimme! It's a bummer that cross save isn't implemented here, but it's a minor blemish for an otherwise super entertaining game. I can't put my Vita down because of all the 80's goodness, which I'm sure shows my age more than anything. LOL

I'm disappointed that I didn't jump into this game when it originally launched in 2012, but I'm super happy that it's made its way to PlayStation consoles with a robust trophy list, I'm mean seriously, 58 trophies? For a $10 game? That's gnarly!

This game is so much fun. I was up late last night playing it because I couldn't put it down! For anyone born in the 80s, just pulling out all of the references is a blast in and of itself.

If you like JRPGs, turn based combat, and 80's pop culture...oh, and a ton of trophies to earn, I think you'll be pleased with it.
