The Witness Review | Gamespresso

Gamespresso: "Modern gaming has changed a lot since the days of Myst and Riven. While at the time the point and click, single-screen slideshow-esque set up was considered an immersive open world, games have now progressed to fully realized 3D spaces. Simultaneously, the majority of puzzle games have transitioned either into indie adventure titles or mobile games. It’s in the midst of all of these differences and conflicting ideas that The Witness emerges with the simple genius to combine all of it together."

I'm loving the game so far, just wish it had more variety of puzzles than just the maze/grids. Still a great game though.

I appreciated how much the game does with so little. That strict adherence to every puzzle being drawing lines gives it a unique identity it wouldn't have otherwise.

I agree, sticking to the maze type puzzle as a unified system throughout the whole game definitely gives The Witness its identity.

For one type of puzzle there's a surprising amount of depth and satisfaction to be had. I'm actually enjoying it more than puzzle games that have a variety of puzzles. Probably because the world is compelling and the puzzle designs are incredibly well thought out. It's true though, I do hope his next game hits the same level of quality but improves in the variety department. I actually prefer Braid conceptually but for some reason I am enjoying Witness vastly more. It doesn't make sense to me but I love it.

Unfortunately, I just never had the attachment to Braid that others did. The fact it was a platformer mixed with a puzzle game might have just been the wrong pairing at the time for me. In the same way I its the singular focus of The Witness that I see as one of its greatest strengths.

Same here. Braid just didn't pull me in like The Witness has. The game has beauty to spare too. The art direction is some of the best I've ever seen, including everything outside of video games.

Come Join Me in the Cult of The Witness

The Witness might be one of the best games ever made. A fun, frequently frustrating study on mysteries, humanity and a love of true magic.

The Witness is pure brilliance. I platinum'd it on PS4 and recently replayed it on PS5. It's definitely an incredible experience that requires no spoilers so just let the island guide you. Yes, the puzzles can get tough but they are never beyond completion so take come back and go see other things. There is also a ton of storytelling and mystery in the visuals. The Witness is the first game I have played that really took my mind to new heights of creative thinking and perspective. This game is more than meets the eye and 100% a masterpiece.

100% agree! This game offers such a unique challenge.. growing up I used to think that Midnight Resistance was tough, then Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts.. fast forwards to Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Destiny's Raids.. but this game was on another level. And when you finally finish it you feel great satisfaction! Trippy ending too 👌🏻

Everyone should also try Superliminal.
