Remedy’s Next Game Will Likely Continue AW & Quantum Break’s TV-Inspired Storytelling Technique

Xboxachievements

“We have always wanted to push the storytelling in games,” Lahtinen told XBA. “Games are for fun, but are also a medium that is tremendously powerful and capable of telling great stories and conveying experiences.”

Just say Alan Wake 2 already lol.

And judging by the teaser video, i think Mr.Scratch is coming back which is pretty damn awesome!

Relientk773424d ago

I'd be surprised if it wasn't Alan Wake 2

die_fiend3424d ago

I'd be surprised if they ever make a decent game again. Max Payne 2 is quite old now!

I would welcome another Alan Wake but American Nightmare was terrible; beat it and never played it again. Unfortunate because the main game and the 2 add on's were great. Maybe it'll be released in time for my 50th birthday which is 4 years from now.

DarkOcelet3424d ago

American Nightmare was an XBL title so i didn't expect that much from it to be honest but i loved Mr.Scratch.

And like i said, i think he is coming back.

Axonometri3424d ago

I'd like to see a more flushed out Bright Falls / Alan Wake tie in. There is so much they could do similar to this with a new Alan Wake game. Crossing fingers and toes for that official announce.

OldGuyStillGaming3424d ago

The wait for QB is ridiculous
I want this game badly

jb2273424d ago

TV inspired storytelling is fine but I hope they follow Naughty Dog's motto to "Keep it on the stick"...ND kinda proved more clearly than any other dev last gen w/ UC & TLOU that you could tell an amazing story will keeping gameplay in the driver's seat. I'm not a fan of sitting through long monotonous cutscenes, especially when the same bits can be conveyed during play, or even through things like the environment.

Only thing that seems iffy about QB is the tv component. It's a cool option to have & it may be great, but even though it's skippable, it's a catch 22, because I'd want to immerse myself in the full lore of the game, but I'd also not want to put my controller down for a half hour after a stretch of gaming...will this mean there will be fewer actual cutscenes, or will the tv section be included in the run time to inflate a shorter game experience? There are a few things I'm on the fence about in regards to this game but overall it is looking amazing. Really looking forward to impressions on this game & if they are positive enough I'll definitely be picking up an XBO to play it.

Dark_Crow3424d ago

You know I'd agree with you but remedy has already proven itself it knows how to handle tv component.

Did you play Alan wake? Gameplay was definutley driver seat and tv component was awesome.

jb2273424d ago

@dark crow

I haven't played Alan Wake even though I've been dying to which is why I wouldn't pass any kind of judgment on Remedy. Alan Wake looked amazing & I always wanted to check it out but was never able to. From what I understand though wasn't the Darkness Falls tv show in that just more supplemental style content that you only had to walk out of the room to miss? I know I'd want to see all of it personally because I dig lore building but I still just can't wrap my head around the QB live action stuff because we have never seen it before in gaming. I honestly don't have any real worry about it as I'm pretty sure QB will be a great game, but on the surface disregarding the involvement of a dev like Remedy, it does sound strange. At the end of the day regardless of how it is received by the gaming public at large I'm sure a game like QB from a dev like Remedy would end up in my goty list for sure. Love what I've seen so far.

I hope it will deliver.. we deserve a good Max Payne remake

HansyJ205d ago

We deserve nothing, but the legacy of Max pain deserves it

Cacabunga204d ago

Max Payne fans deserve a good remake. Maybe that is more clear

The_Blue204d ago

' but the legacy of Max pain deserves it"
The Max Payne legacy deserves it.

SoloZelot90204d ago

Okay...so something digital deserves it but something real doesn't?

DarXyde204d ago

I'm not much of a Remedy gamer beyond Alan Wake, but I can't say I've ever heard anyone complain about the quality of the product, whether we like the game or not.

CrimsonWing69205d ago

Um, I’d think that should go without saying… but glad they’re committed to making the quality excellent as opposed to, uh, not.

Gamingsince1981205d ago

Yeah it's kinda weird for them to say that and redundant.

DodoDojo204d ago

Its because they know that they lost trust with the GTA trilogy.

CrimsonWing69204d ago (Edited 204d ago )

I don’t think Remedy had anything to do with that. I get you’re referring to a publisher, but you wouldn’t think a developer would be reassuring people about their game when a different developer made a game that dropped the ball that’s under the same publishing umbrella.

Like, why would From Soft have to assure us that they’re game will be be striving for excellence if Namco Bandai is publishing and they’re referring to something like Unknown 9: Awakening?

This is just a weird statement no matter how you spin it, but also good to know.

jambola205d ago

oh.......thanks
"update, won't suck we hope" lol

VersusDMC205d ago

Well rockstar is paying the bills so they have to project confidence so it isn't cancelled.

What I'm wondering is who is going to voice Max since the og actor died or they are using the old VO like MGS3Remake.

Profchaos205d ago

Rockstar has always had a great relationship with remedy this isn't some new fly by night partnership they have worked together for 20 plus years now

VersusDMC205d ago

Max payne 2 was the last time they worked with rockstar in 2003. And it bombed.

Rockstar asked remedy to check out Max Payne 3 for notes but were not really involved.

So having worked on a project 20 years ago doesn't mean they have been working together for 20 plus years.

swedishMeatwad205d ago

Wow, breaking news! Developer aiming for excellent quality!

SoloZelot90204d ago

Considering some new releases that's good to hear. It is better than aiming for diversity and inclusion.

Remedy is leaving Epic in the dark place to self-publish Control 2

Remedy will self-publish Control 2 as part of a new "strategic cooperation agreement" with Annapurna. A press release accompanying the announcement says Annapurna will provide half of Control 2's development budget, and in return gains the rights to adapt Control and Alan Wake for film and television.

TheNamelessOne289d ago

Devs backing EPIC didn't last long. I just can't understand why ... /s

porkChop289d ago (Edited 289d ago )

This isn't about the store. Epic published the game on all platforms. They want to self publish because they couldn't recoup Alan Wake 2's budget.

Killer2020UK289d ago

...because Epic chose to restrict its PC release to the Epic store and completely restrict it's physical release until later this year.

Vits288d ago

It’s connected, though. They couldn’t recoup the costs because Epic restricted the places and formats where the game could be released, literally removing the biggest PC distribution channels from the equation. And they also sold the game cheaper than a traditional full release, solely to support their statements at the launch of the Epic Games Store that PC games would be cheaper if it weren’t for Steam.

RaidenBlack289d ago

Dang, nice ... Alan Wake II is an amazing game
Can't wait for Control 2 and Max Payne Remakes

DustMan288d ago

Not sure why your getting down voted because you found Alan Wake 2 amazing. I'm in the same boat as you. Can't wait for Control 2 & the Max Payne remakes. Max Payne 1 & 2 were some of my favorite pc games from my early teens lol.

RaidenBlack288d ago

Coz N4G logic.
You cant praise a game if its got no physical release, not releasing on PS etc

isarai288d ago

Maybe this time we'll actually get a day 1 physical release

JEECE288d ago

And hopefully Steam/GOG options on PC.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8425d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto424d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia425d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger425d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie424d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

424d ago
Profchaos424d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie424d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh424d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
