Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Far Cry Primal

Ubisoft Montreal takes Far Cry Primal to the next, natural step: a foggy, Mesolithic land of raw survival, set 12,000 years in humanity's past.

Screen-tearing AND not even a locked 30fps. Sounds solid(ish) for the most part, but I just point this out towards all the fan boys who were claiming all (if not most) PS4/XB1 games would be running at 60fps LOCKED prior to launch. In reality these numbers rarely matter dramatically, but just an observation.

So, 'underpowered'...

Still needs tweaking by release date but that extra 7th core of sonys came in handy

few visual enhancements are made on console since last year's effort though, especially in its use of lighting. From the first hunting scene, Far Cry Primal flaunts a heavier use of volumetric effects in particular, simulating the way light penetrates fog - becoming thicker the further you look to the distance.

Your the biggest fanboy, talking about frivilous bs. I been here long enough to know your the worst kind, a Nintendo one lol happy with his underpowered, stagnant paper weight lol.

Of course you would find the smallest negative in an article actually positively speaking on Primal on PS4. For over 90% of the game its at 30 fps with only a drop to 28% very rarely, same goes for screen tearing. It is locked at 30, almost all games drop a few frames here and there, even on pc.

Trust me if they were in the buisness of making cute cartoony games (intentionally done on a specific system on almost all their games to mask hardware weakness) , with a cute art style, then all their games would be 1080p and 60fps.

Gtho with tht stealth trolling. Out of all ppl you got the nerve to talk about underpowered, oh the irony.

Oh by the way.... "Just my observation :)"

This looks insanely boring

@rarefaction...

I agree. as a matter of fact i cant get into any FarCry games. Their games are repetitive, bore fests imo. I know ppl who love them though and generally they score highly.

One thing...

'Underpowered' means s**t. Look at the actual GAMES - God forbid - for once. Specs mean NOTHING if developers are either lazy and/or average. I'll wager ANY Nintendo fan (such as myself) couldn't imagine SM3DW, Bayonetta 2, Smash, DKTF - etc, etc, etc - looking/running any better even if on a high-end PC.

Ok, so you are well versed with the term ''Underpowered' - the trolls go to word. Ever heard of the term overkill?

the first game out for the ps4 was killzone which was 30fps, 30fps was the standard from day one, never go full xtard

- Horizon Zero Dawn
- WiLd
- ARK: Survival Evolved
- Scalebound

Compaired to these......this looks average at best for the genre. I'll give it to Ubisoft for atleast trying something new. I think there timing is good on release though. Get this in before the others release and it will help them on sales I think. After playing Far Cry 4 last year though, which I liked, I just don't want to go full caveman on a Ubisoft open world title if that makes any sence.
