The driven AI, the unethical scientist, and the heroic commander: the three women at the heart of Halo.
I wish Bungie was still in charge of Halo :(
Halo 5 story writer didn't do the best job exploiting this importance. Such an amazing story, i just wasn't that satisfied with Halo 5's story. Gameplay is brilliant but they couldn't do what Bungie did. I find Halsey to be particularly interesting. The UNSC hates her, but the Spartans sort of treat her like a mother, even though she snatched them away from their actual mothers. She seems so trustworthy even though she's done some messed up things.
The story is a cliffhanger, so it's going to have things that are not fully understood or fleshed out yet.
It's not just that, it's the delivery. There was no sense of mystery, no tension, no cohesion, and no noteworthy climax. A lot of the cool elements of the story, like Cortana going rampant, were hindered by bad writing, cheesy lines, and lack of characterization. Crimson team goes to hunt masterchief, masterchief goes to hunt Cortana, masterchief finds Cortana. Cortana is crazy and tries to kinap the Chief and blue team, Crimson team rescues Chief and blue team. Now remember Halo 2. Covenant leader punished for letting Halo get destroyed, Prophets offer him position of Arbiter to redeem himself. Arbiter hunts a heretic and finds out the truth from an oracle (343), but continues his mission. Chief repels the Covenant fleets on Earth, but ends up in the hands of the Gravemind. Arbiter is betrayed by Tartarus and is also caught by the Gravemind. It's then revealed that if Halo is activated they all die, so Gravemind uses them to stop the activation, but if they don't activate it then the flood takes over (This dilemma is what makes the story so interesting). While Arbiter fights Taratarus, Chief manages to stop the ring. Then Cortana is kidnapped by the flood who aims get her intelligence. That's a hell of a story where the cliffhanger pisses the player off because he wants more, not because there was no substance leading to the cliffhanger. Like I'm a HUGE fan of Halo, and by the end of Halo 5 I didn't have much interest in finding out what happens next because i'm so afraid it's going to be cheesy.
