A poll of players from Halo 5: Guardians‘ pro league suggests that 343 Industries’ flagship competitive game mode may not be as popular as the developer would like
I love it as something different.
That's my opinion on it as well - it's definitely a change to the Halo formula, but I find it really refreshing and engaging, kind of like a Halo-gone-tactical approach. If you rush, your team is bound to lose. It's a great addition to Halo's current lineup of game modes (the series' lineup, not necessarily Halo 5's), which ranges from traditional slayer and objective games (ball, flag), to large scale BTB and Warzone matches, and fun/wacky modes (zombies, rocket race, fiesta). As a competitive mode, Breakout fits nicely in there as a mixup to the multiplayer formula, so it's a shame to see it get such a negative rap
Agreed, I think its a very refreshing mode!!!
I think it's a solid gametype that feels like Halo mixed with Counterstrike. Still, priority should have been to have KOTH, Oddball, Infection, Doubles, Team Snipers, and even Headhunter at launch. Really no excuse for leaving out gametypes that have been a part of the series since literally day one.
I think Breakout is a great style of game mode, I've always liked the death and your done of the old Rainbow Six days. However, I feel like it's not a good fit for a game that's as fast paced as Halo. If anything, they should at least change it to best of 5 or 7 because sometimes a match will go to 9 matches and it takes way too long.
I like it as a warmup or change-of-pace, but not as my go-to.
I love breakout, probably not surprising though coming from a counter strike player.
