I would be more inclined to see how it tracks vs the PS2.

PS3 sales were slow to take off at the beginning.

PhoenixUp1530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

PS3 sold more in its first two years than most other consoles did in the same timeframe.

By that summation any console that didn't sell 21.3 million in its first two years would be considered slow, which would be every condole except the PS1, PS2, and the Wii.

SoapShoes1530d ago

Yeah at 19.6M the PS3 in its first two years is ahead of Xbox One and 360.

Neonridr1530d ago

really? I thought the 360 had a huge lead and then the PS3 over time surpassed it. I didn't think it was ahead of the 360 that early in the generation.

ABizzel11530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

That's because everyone keeps forgetting that the 360 launched a year before PS3 and Wii did.

By holiday 2008 (year 2 for PS3 and Wii) they were at 20m and and 44m (Wii still is the "fastest" selling console of all time, and will likely stay that way), with the 360 at 26m.

However, the 360's year 2 was actually December 2007, and it was just at 16m.

Neonridr1530d ago

@ABizzel1 - fair enough, thanks for the update. I guess I am confusing total sales as opposed to yearly sales. The 360 had more global sales until late in both consoles lifecycles when the PS3 finally overtook the 360 in total sales. PS3 did it in one less year though.

PhoenixUp1530d ago

@ Neo

360 did have a headstart because it launched a year earlier. However when you align the launches the 360 sold 17.7 million and PS3 sold 21.3 million in their first two years on the market. XO sold somewhere between those totals.

The slowest selling PlayStation console still sold at a faster rate than the fastest selling Xbox console.

What's with VGC making it a habit of undertracking Sony's consoles?

Sony revealed that PS3 sold 21.3 million at the end of its first two years on the market.

VGC should fix those numbers to stay more credible

Neonridr1530d ago

you shouldn't trust VGChartz numbers period. They are only suggestions, not complete facts..

PhoenixUp1530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

Oops double post

Ruggadagod1530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

My god PS4 is a monster in sales. And think about it for PS3 though it sold that much early on and was $500/$600 and more and other countries wow. I don't think any other console could have gotten away with that without making the company close their gaming division. What is it about the Playstation brand that makes it so strong?

Dark_Crow1530d ago

Idk. Just game on what you like, when you want and how you want to.

Ruggadagod1530d ago

That's not the point bruh.

FallenAngel19841530d ago

I'm pretty certain PS3 sold 21.3 million within its first two years on the market. VGC has it undertracked by 1.7 million units in that timeframe. That's a huge margin of error.

VGC should fix this and make another chart that compares PlayStation 3 and Xbox One sales.

Dark_Crow1530d ago

And then another for Xbox one vs Xbox 360.

Seriously what is the point?
We already know.

FallenAngel19841530d ago

They already have a chart for that

The purpose of the charts are supposed to compare 7th gen consoles to 8th gen consoles in the same timeframe. I just want them go use more accurate numbers to make these lists more believable.
