(NSFW) Meet the Man Making Sure ‘Street Fighter’ Stays at the Top of its Game

Yoshinori Ono sits in a chair across from me with his trademark miniature Blanka figure grimacing at me from the table separating us. As Ono speaks, I listen for any words I might recognize from my two-year stint in Japanese classes at community college. Ono seems to run on an endless supply of energy fueled by his passion for Street Fighter. It’s been a part of his life for over 20 years, from his early days in sound design on games like Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha, until he took over the mantle of producer of Street Fighter IV. It’s fair to credit him for the fighting game genre’s resurgence in 2008. He has been instrumental in keeping the Street Fighter franchise going nearly 30 years after the first game released in arcades.

Rival Schools .. + a port re-release of Project Justice for pS4

Lord_Sloth1531d ago

I've read his post about 10 times and I don't see anything about exclusivity as you seem to.

RedDevils1531d ago

Because that's where it at!

Kingthrash3601531d ago (Edited 1531d ago )

Maybe because he only has a ps4. I don't see the word "exclusive" anywhere in his comment...dang, a guy can't have preferences now?
OT I've been begging for a new rival schools for years, It would make my year just hearing about a sequel. (On any console)

XisThatKid1531d ago

Give me Power Stone Collection on PSN please! I'll takeone of those games or SNK vs Capcom 2

Neoprime1531d ago

Because it has a bigger fighting game audience.

Loktai1531d ago (Edited 1531d ago )

Well for one it would have to at least be on ps4 if it wanted to sell well especially in its key markets. Also, a lot of people into Japanese games in the US and in europe are on Playstation. It's just obvious. Nobody mentioned exclusivity but if you want to be thought of first for Japanese games you go to Playstation.

Heavenly King1531d ago

Because fighting games in Xbox or Wii dont sell that great.

gangsta_red1531d ago

When did this myth start that fighting games don't sell well on Xbox?

ion6661530d ago

Do you even P.C. bruh

XisThatKid1530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

Because it's a good believable myth with factual evidence. Especilly for 2D fighters

Capcom vs SNK

Marvel vs Capcom

Capcom vs anybody else

A new Capcom vs game would be nice.

Neoprime1531d ago

How about Megaman vs Sonic.

FallenAngel19841531d ago

I'd like to see more installments in the Vs. Capcom series

Sirk7x1531d ago

I've always secretly hoped for Nintendo Vs. Capcom.

stonecold31531d ago

rival and a new snk vs capcom would be great maybe a remake of xmen vs street fighter and marvel super hereos vs street fighter

Hoffmann1531d ago

The clickbait is strong on destructoid today.

DarkOcelet1531d ago

""People are asking for new Rival Schools or Capcom vs. SNK 3 and these people have a very loud voice," Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono said in a recent interview with Playboy."

It was Ono who actually said that people want those games, DToid are just quoting him.

Hoffmann1531d ago

Kyle just knows how to get reactions.

rainslacker1531d ago (Edited 1531d ago )

Today?

Destructoid are masters of the clickbait. Although I think Gamingbolt is giving them a run for their money lately.

Granted, dunno if this is really clickbait. Article is formed to get a response from a quote. Think the headline gives less reason to click, since it seems most people don't realize this is referring to a quote.:)

That being said, I'd go with Rival Schools. been a while since I played one, and remember liking them a lot.

Haven't been too big on the vs. series myself....particularly the ones that come from two different fighting genre styles.
