The article's title was headlined by "PS3 beats Xbox 360; Wii No. 1 in U.S." Yet the 360 beat the PS3 in Japan with a sales increase of 289%.

I think the 360 beating the PS3 (fluke or not) by 13,000 plus in JAPAN in one week is a bigger story than the PS3 beating the 360 by 20,000 in one month in the US.

This comment is not saying anything bad about either console, it's aimed at the angle punch jump chose to take with doing their little weekly review.

Edit: It would also be nice if people really tried to be a bit more objective on hitting the disagree button rather thank making things a side "A" verses side "B" contest.

I've noticed that a lot about punch jump. They have always been slanted a bit toward the PS3. If you look at their past reviews their headlines always favor the PS3. Notice how even with they said the 360 beat the PS3. They never said the 360 beat the PS3 instead they said "PS3 sales below Xbox 360 at Japan retail".

That's how they roll. That's cool though, cause they never really say much anyway. The usually report the facts, but they slant it in a way that hurts the PS3 the least.

The thing is, it's really not that interesting. Reason being (and you mentioned it in your post), it's a fluke. If Tales hadn't been released and there was that kind of jump, I would totally agree. But as with ALL JRPGs released on the 360 in Japan, the sales increase for 1-2 weeks, then drop back down to a little over 1K. Case in point- Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and now Tales (all bundled BTW).

i think it's worded that way because a) everyone expected the 360 to outsell the PS3 in Japan during the week on the strength of ToV, and b) no one expected the PS3 to outsell the 360 in July, due to the 360's price cut. even NPD was PREDICTING a win for the 360 in July. i'm actually happy that 360 won a week in Japan and PS3 won a month in the US; stuff like this only good for competition.

No sh*t Japan is their home turf! I never implied Japan wasn't Sony's home turf.

The only reason why I said that was more important than in Japan because we *all* know what happens when games for the 360 come out in Japan. It gives the 360 a boost and then it goes back down. Japanese people play rpg's...no matter which system it's on. If an rpg came out for the PS3 right now in Japan, they'd be playing it right now.

Microsoft always brags about how they're outselling the PS3 and yet the only territories they're holding at the moment is the U.K and the U.S. The fact that Sony outsold them even when they did a pricecut is just embarrassing.

I disagree, based on the way the 360 has been performing in the past, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE expected the 360 to beat the PS3 in Japan even it only for 1 week. Especially hardcore PS3 fans, however these same fans would have expected the PS3 to beat the 360 in the US especially with the 80 gig bundle selling so well.

Therefore to me, the 360 beating the PS3 by 13,000 in one week in japan is not only a surprise, but it is also more news worthy.

you surely have no idea about how big JRPGs and Tales games are in Japan! it's not as BIG as DQ or FF but it will sell no matter what and no matter on which console it's on! people ALREADY KNEW that 360 will outsell PS3 for that week! and have you ever heard about Blue Dragon? Ace Combat 6? 360 have beaten PS3 in sales numbers on those two occasions last year for a couple of weeks in Japan! guess you don't know that either, do you?

No need for that because I've been there for 4 years and quite familiar with the gaming trend over there. Been there, done that! also, I've also been reading a lot from the internet (if you considered that as studying!) about things! I just wanted to tell you about 360 outselling PS3 in Japan is not anything new to the table or should I say, It's a trend over there, people buy console even for only 1 game! hell I have a Japanese friend who bought a PSP at launch just for Everybody's Golf Portable and sold the PSP back later on after finishing it!

Thats why PS3 is now taking main lead platform for every game. PS3 is the superior console. Sales really don't matter if the console is a piece of sh!t. But if consumers don't start buying games for it as much as they do for the 360, or moreso, devs will still see the 360 as a viable lead platform for development and DLC delivery. The PS3 can sell all it wants, but until a PS3 game shows up in the top 10 game sales at a place higher than 9 or 10, many people will continue to view the PS3 as mainly a cheaper outlet to buy Blu-Ray movies on.
