First Gen Pokémon Re-Releases Won’t Make Use of Basic Virtual Console Features

Serebii.net, a popular Pokémon fan site, has read through the manual for the upcoming Virtual Console re-release of the original Pokémon games, and has uncovered some interesting tidbits. Most notably, they found out that the games will be missing out on some basic Virtual Console features.

No restore point options, no 3DS save backup feature...talks about cloning pokemon related issues for why these are disabled...

user99502793435d ago

so 3dS only... or WiiU as well? would love to cop Pokemon Red on WiiU and relive the glory days.

InTheZoneAC3435d ago

article mentioned both platforms...

Skate-AK3435d ago

They don't say the games are for both platforms. What they're talking about is just a virtual console feature that the Wii U and 3DS has to make save states on Virtual Console games. The games are only for 3ds at the moment.

user99502793435d ago

I see that, but upon a thorough Google search only indicated 3DS. No need to be all snarky about it.

Skate-AK3435d ago

Only been announced for 3DS.

So even if i have the physical copy I have to re buy my game?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3435d ago

no.
Restore points in VC is a unlimited quick save feature.
You can create a restore point anytime and load it when ever you want on VC. But once it is loaded it overwrites the save data to that point.

Pokemon Red and Blue + Yellow on VC won't because that will give players the option to clone Pokemon.

2pacalypsenow3435d ago

But if I have a physical copy of blue shouldn't I get this digital copy for free?

SoulMikeY3434d ago

Not unless you broke the system that plays it. You bought the original one for use in a gameboy, not anything else. Do people get free cds because their cars don't play tapes anymore?

The mindset that you bought the game, so you should get it free for everything else, needs to stop. Keep the system you bought it for and stop complaining if you didn't.

2pacalypsenow3434d ago

I know I was just mocking the people who say the same about PS4 Emulation

LAWSON723434d ago

Yeah you are not proving a point...

2pacalypsenow3434d ago

Just showing how stupid those people sound.

NotoriousWhiz3434d ago

No, but if Nintendo sold a digital copy on the DS/DSi, there's a good chance that it would still work on your 3DS.

Is anyone expecting anything less? It will be exclusive to Switch 2 eventhough it will still look like a 3DS game

Inverno49d ago

I think the 3DS games look better than anything GF released on Switch.

--Onilink--49d ago

To be fair, The Pokemon Company operates quite independently, so it wouldn’t have been that strange for a Pokemon game coming out in just the 2nd year of the S2’s life to still be crossgen. I mean, just how long into the PS5 and SX life are we and we are still seeing plenty of crossgen stuff

gold_drake50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

not surprised.

nintendo was prepared to have some games sell the console.

im sure the game will still look like its from the ps2 era tho.

coldfire98448d ago

that is in part because of the chip shortage when everyone over reacted to sars in 2019.

Kosic49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

I've lost interest in pokemon, the mega evolve stuff was a poor digimon rip off, then the stuttering mess the 3d versions are.
I'd love a remake of gold/silver in a top down view like lets go pikachu had, but sticking with the traditional pokemon mechanics.

CrimsonWing6949d ago

Uh, yea, that’s how console generations are supposed to work…
