A look at the beta of this anime based team FPS.
The developers of Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex - First Assault Online have announced that they are beginning to close down their game.
It’s free to play on PC and here’s a second match of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online team deathmatch battle. It’s a fast paced first person shooter with all the trimmings you expect these days.
EGG:
A week ago I had the chance to playtest the open beta build of Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex Online: First Assault.
Based off the titular manga by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex Online: First Assault takes place in Japan 2030, in a futuristic dystopian society where humans can be hacked for nefarious purposes. In the midst of such chaos, one organization, Section 9, has risen to the occasion to pit cybernetically enhanced combat operatives against the cyborg terrorists threatening the fabric of society.
Might have to give this one a go. Sounds interesting.
Honestly as a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell, the footage I seen looked disappointing. It just looks like a COD clone with some Ghost in the Shell skins instead of standard soldiers. If any other fans can vouch for the game I'll happily give it a go but it doesn't look like it's creatively using the license at all.
I've been playing for a while myself, I feel the game has nailed the aesthetics almost perfectly but the gameplay brings nothing new to the table. My biggest issues are the perks which are both temporary and useless. Very few of them actually makes a difference and to make matters worse, at a match's end where you hack nodes to gain random loot, they take slots that could have been filled with useful rewards.
Another problem is Ishikawa's turret that takes forever to take down even with explosives. A team of them could pretty much nail any hopes of the opposing team in Team Conquest and the addition of the Think Tank adds insult to injury. Third, is that grenades are useless due to the indicator which does too good of a job warning enemies of it's presence. This may make sense if you had the ability to cook them but if they have no plans of adding them at least increase the GP of a grenade kill.
There's of course weapon balancing (AWP rifle is one-hit kill in almost all proximity.), the lack of actual Ghost In the Shell weapons (other than the Seburo M9), lack of a customizable character, paltry match rewards and other issues that are too long to list.
They could have easily created a great single player seeing that the original voice actors were on board or be bit more innovative in gameplay but I feel it's just another big name thrown to the Free to Play wolves.
The lack of regenerating health is nice though.
