Ark: Survival Evolved Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

Dave and Rich take a look at Ark: Survival Evolved on Xbox One, currently in an early access phase. Plenty of development time left for this innovative, fun game - and it looks like it needs it, as its technical issues are hard to overlook.

They just released a new patch Friday which was supposed to help the frame rate. I'm sure it's bad but I don't really notice it much. The clipping is more of an issue but I'm not complaining because I got my first raptor trained because it was half stuck in a rock. I love this game though. The most fun I've had in a while. Highly recommend it if you haven't checked it out yet.

Is this a ps2 game? Like really look at this.

Looks pretty next-gen to me. Well, Ive actually played it on both pc and xbox one and havent just watched videos.

I think he's talking about the performance.

@abizzle

Yeah I hope. The performance on xbox was miles better than pc for me. Just because of better optimization though. I dont seem to have a problem with frames on xbox as much as the lag though. It was good until a few weeks ago and its stayed laggy for me ever since.

@slate

There was no console optimization that isn't also on PC. Were you running it on PC at the same settings with a comparable rig? You'd have to run the PC version at less than 720p and practically every setting at it's lowest to match the Xbox version. Although from what I've seen it seems a few of the Xbox settings are far lower than even the lowest of PC settings.

Isn't this planned for PSVR? Are they out of their minds? It's running at sub 720p on the One, so let's just assume the PS4 can get it to native 720p with the extra gpu oomph. They need to get it to 1080p 60fps. Since it's actually running closer to 20 on average, they've got to optimize it to run 5-6 times better by launch. 1.9 times more pixels, around 2.5 to 3 times the framerate.

That sounds literally impossible. It'll almost assuredly be cancelled for PSVR, if not altogether. I wouldn't doubt if they pushed it out without VR anyway, running at 720p 30fps.

Doesnt the VR have additional processors in the visor to help games?
I would have thought the PS4 power, plus the VR processor might actually make the game run acceptably?

Guyfamily9993441d ago

Wow.
Yup, a little box is going to be 5 times as powerful as the base console.
In all seriousness though, that processor is for hdmi output splitting and interpolating 60fps to 120fps. It doesn't really handle the game.

DLConspiracy3441d ago (Edited 3441d ago )

The game in general regardless of platform is a CPU GPU hog. Its to be expected from a huge open world game like this with a lOT goin on. There is a lot of AI going on in the game. Lots of destructable objects as well. Physics in this game is huge and that shows the impact on its frames and resolution. I doubt we will see 1080p 60fps on either console. I'm a bit surprised it works on console to begin with.

Confirmed, official Xbox one trailer footage was on PC. How can MS get away with this obvious false advertisement?

Mikefizzled3441d ago

Microsoft was not the first and will not be the last to use bullshots for advertisements.
