Star Wars Battlefront is the perfect casual first-person shooter

Star Wars Battlefront might have issues, but for casual shooter fans, it's the best video game in years. DICE's game is truly a pick-up-and-play first-person shooter.

'Ultimately, Battlefront is a throwback to a simpler time when first-person shooters were more about taking down foes than upgrading your character.' - Throw back to when? Consoles didn't really get solid online player till last gen, and even then most games offered far more.

If you mean a throw back to PC titles like Quake then oh my. Quake sure was simple...but it also came with a ton of maps and modding tools. Battlefront comes with 3 maps and a 'buy our season pass' in the box, as well as the in-game menu.

You can enjoy a game even if it's a terrible deal for the consumer, but don't use questionable reasons like 'but it's a throwback!'

The only way throwback Battlefront is connected to is the demo discs you'd get on the front of magazines...and even they had more content.

Actually....it came with 4 PLANETS, and a free 5th one to download a couple weeks after release. It had way more actual maps, they were just all broken up into the different game modes so that each mode only had a handful of maps.

Also, it actually does have quite a few modes to play as well as a lot of stuff to do in single player/Co-op.

The problem isn't the amount of stuff to do. The problem is how shallow it is. There just isn't enough to unlock and the gameplay is very straightforward and simple. Its also lacking a variety of vehicles and ships. The only worthwhile vehicle is the AT-ST. Flying fighters is basically pointless and even if you do decide to do it, its very poorly implemented.

I stopped playing after 2 weeks, unfortunately. But when you try to say those crappy demo discs on the front of magazines had more content then any validity you might have had just starts to sound like bitter complaining.

'as a lot of stuff to do in single player/Co-op.' Defending against wave of enemies is hardly compelling to be fair. Maybe i just expect more from multi million dollar games.

pat_11_53430d ago

And this is exactly why I enjoy the game lol.

Erik73573430d ago

Oh damn I WISH IT WAS A THROWBACK to old games...hm battlefront 1 and 2

PixelGateUk3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Cutting up on map into smaller pieces does not make more maps.

CorndogBurglar3430d ago

See, there you go again. You only list ONE single player mode (Survival) when there are many more, and pretend like thats all there is to do...

By the way, i agree that Survival and most of the modes are poor. But again, that doesn't equal a lack of content. If all of these game modes were done better than the game would have been praised by nearly everyone! Unfortunately, the many modes it has are done poorly. Thats the problem. Not lack of content. The content is there.

5 planets, each one is at least 2 maps, none of the smaller maps are cut from the larger maps exactly, they may be similar but are different, also the maps on survivor are unique to that mode too.

@PoixelGateUK - N64 had Goldeneye 007 & Perfect Dark, which are STILL two of the best shooters ever to exist.

If it wasn't for those two games, FPS games would not be popular on consoles like they are.

Gamecube had Timesplitters 2 and others as well...so did PS2.

FPS games have been good for 15-20 years.

'Consoles didn't really get solid online player till last gen'

I did not say anything about FPS quality on consoles rofl

Fully agree with this review.

tastas213430d ago

Games like this emody everything wrong with gaming today.

_-EDMIX-_3430d ago

Play games for fun, not for some political conquest.

Variety is good for gaming, something is not a matter of fact or objective in the concept of fun.

I can honestly say nothing is actually wrong with gaming in this regard. This is not the only MP title that will releasing in the history of gaming bud...you'll be ok and gaming will live, dooms day postponed lol.

KiwiViper853430d ago

Casual Multiplayer sounds more like my kind of game. I get destroyed in Competitive multiplayer.

When this hits EA Access ill be all over it.

_-EDMIX-_3430d ago

Its pretty fun and easy to get into. A nice break from playing the Battlefield series for years, still looking forward to BF5, but this is a nice contrast for a while.

OB1Biker3430d ago

Except it's TPS (also FPS of course) :p

Sciurus_vulgaris3430d ago

I played the beta of this game for a few hrs and found it extremely shallow. A causal game just has to be simple to learn but not easy to master.

pat_11_53430d ago

I'd say that definition of a casual game is incorrect.

Pandamobile3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Yeah that definition applies to pretty much every kind of game.

Austin483430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

I can describe this game with one word it's short and starts with a s

Austin483430d ago

your good 😂😂 ok it ends with a T

OB1Biker3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Maybe doesn't SuiT you and can't suit everyone like any game?
