The Rift has some higher specifications than the Morpheus and likely costs more, so it makes sense that you get a better image ?

Besides, then there's the PC. PCs can be very powerful, and will improve year after year. This will reflect in the experiences.

Overall, it's just the same as you'd expect from consoles and PC. As long as PSVR is a decent VR device in itself, it's fine ! There will be tons of great content on PSVR too, not to mention a huge install base.

If the Oculus Rift CV1 is slightly better than the PSVR device... it doesn't really matter. If you're a console gamer, all you need to worry about is "Does the PSVR provide a satisfactory VR experience? Low Latency ? generally high image quality ? Comfort ? PRESENCE ? IMMERSION ?"
The answer from previews seems to be 'Yes' by all accounts.

Im not even going to bother but like ive commented in the past tons of articles on the internet about games like "Rigs" that were demoed that stated it was as good or better than demos shown by the other two. In terms of power we all know PC will be stronger but that did not stop Ps3 and ow Ps4 from having games like TLOU, Uncharted, God of War, Bloodborne, and others that are arguably better than anything found on the more powerful PC.

It's got an external processor to help with the increased frame rate so don't bet on ps vr games looking that inferior to their console counterparts just yet.

Sony have far more experience in the electronics industry than oculus who will just throw more hardware at the problem and let the consumer pick up the the cost, whereas I'm sure Sony will have spent a lot of R&D time on software optimisation( on a closed platform). They have far more control over the experience. I'm sure these rift demos are running on s behemoth PC,how many people will have those specs at home?

Who wins Game of the Year almost every year? It really depends on what organization you are looking at. If you are using the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences then you will see Game of the Year has been available on PC 9 out of the last 18 years. To be fair 13 of those 18 years GOY was also available on console since many games are available on both PC and console. From a purely technical standpoint many of these games that are available on both platforms as GOY are better on PC. It really depends on your PC though. You can have a better looking game on console when compared to a mid or low grade gaming PC.

Yes but the PS4 can't have games like Uncharted, Bloodborne and TLOU running in VR at the required 90+ fps and still look the same. The games will require some serious scale down in resolution to keep the frame rates high.

If you were expecting Drive Club in VR based on how it looks now, I want to sit on that cloud with you and watch the sunset.

Note im not saying PSVR is better and nor do most of these articles (although it is in certain respects like comfort, screen door effect (so far) and probably pricing) but this article is giving the notion it really isnt comparable to the other two and thats total bs. They have already demoed games like rigs that are cream of the crop on any VR set up!

It's strange but not surprising that a few people are bashing PSVR and comparing it unfairly to a more expensive product when Sony has to keep costs low to ensure PSVR doesn't quickly flop. Consoles are 'cheap', easy to use, and 'good enough' for many people and that's exactly what PSVR will be, but it's actually better than that. People can pay more to get more obviously, but it's immature for them to try to seem superior on the internet.

After I get PSVR I'll probably get the VR that has sensors in a room. For now PSVR is more than good enough and already has at least 5 games that I want.

Valkyrie looks and plays the same on both! HMDS , which is why what many on here seem to overlook is yes Vive & Oculus Rift have more robust hardware, has motion control setups, but..here is the big blunt truth.

Sony has more than Entry level VR ie: smart phone level VR. Above the Samsung + Oculus Gear VR. But not quite as powerful as HTC Vive or OculuRift. But has a motion control setup not just with the Move, but also with its standard game control pad unlike Oculus Rift or Vive. But Sony's PlayStation VR has access to the very same LiquidVR SDK & DVK that is used on the Oculus Rift & HTC: Vive

Liquid VR kit made by AMD & Crytek are treating OCRift,HTC Vive & playstation VR as one platform as a whole.

Also remember Oculus Rift storefront will for the most part offer the same games to work on both Oculus + Samsung gear VR & Oculus Rift to run the largest same catalogue of games & Apps aside for the few that will take advantage of the Oculus Rift higher specs for at least a few years anyway.

The main point even Entry level VR is good enough for HD quality games & Apps and entertainment along with using a standard platform to develop for as VR's minimum Specs are even at basic Entry level are fairly good to give a over all good entry point needed to at least show VR as a viable medium now.

Even though playstation VR sit's in the middle, it has enough oomph, to run even higher level VR than Entry and run it quite well. So yes among the three higher spec VR HMD's out there, it may be the lowest, but its not going to be left out due to being able to run the same games as the higher end HMD's for quite a while at least. More than the length of this generation of HMD headsets, because its about the Adoption of VR as a medium in the consumer space that is taking the priority. Being in the middle for VR is a pretty good position its able to grab Lower entry level VR games Apps and entertainment, and have a rather excellent method to grab higher end HMD software & apps also. And being cheaper to boot from the higher end but not so much more expensive from over the lower Entry level headsets that its hard to be way over priced for what you are paying for with VR above Entry level.

Everything is relative. If you need to take out a mortgage on you house to buy a $599 toy you probably aren't in the market for VR anyhow. Your initial statement is spot on though. Regardless of price if you prefer Playstation games over PC, then PSVR is a no brainer for you. That doesn't make it the better option for everyone, but clearly the best choice for you. You don't need to exaggerate the cost of Rift to justify your choice since the games you want to play are more than sufficient enough.

That is the thing, the price is likely to be marginally different. How much can you really shave off $599 when you still got that breakout box on the PS VR?

Also, consumers might not think of it, but more comfort (which is what Oculus went for) as opposed to cheaper manufacturing is what is keeping people using the device. I'm hoping Sony is coming to the same conclusion, but all of that is moot if the software is bad. It sounds like the software for PS VR is bad overall and that if you want VR, Oculus is the one to get!

How much can they shave off of $599? You assume both cost exactly the same amount to manufacture which to me is a ludicrous way of thinking. That is like asking how Nintendo can shave off $400/$500 (PS4/X1 original cost) when selling the Wii U. Cheaper product just sell for less. And because Sony IS doing much better financially, Shu Yoshida has already stated Sony is prepared to sell PSVR at a loss to generate sales. Much like the PS3 costed over $900 per console in the beginning yet sold for only $600 (I was an early adapter and gladly paid that).

The OR is generally more on the high end, and that is also a result of the fact that it is built to take advantage of more powerful systems.

Even so, PSVR still looks to be a great VR experience anyway. Not to mention the great games that they'll have. RIGS looks great. Imagine Driveclub and GT with it. The Heist also looks awesome.

I have heard other people's feedback with PSVR and they say is a better experience than Oculus Rift so I guess this is a matter of opinion. The thing is that PSVR is going to be more popular that Oculus since they are only targeting PC hardcore fans and with Vive rumored $1500 price, PSVR is the best option for staring on the VR technology. This is assuming Sony will put a better price than the competition.

That is hard to believe, because Oculus is putting in parts where their mouth is and showing us a device that they have no profit on and focuses on comfort.

This is clear by the fact that they required a GTX970, despite being able to say hey lets require a GT 750Ti so we can reach more. After all, we are still beating PS VR with that requirement. BUT Oculus didn't!

Oculus tried to give you the best experience with as little compromises as possible!!!

I just checked out all of your links. The last doesn't appear to have ever tried anything other than PSVR. A couple choose Rift over PSVR, but most say PSVR is the most comfortable and looks the sleekest. That isn't to say Rift wasn't comfortable, just that PSVR felt better. Software will be what sets the two apart more than anything. PC is much more open platform and has many more indie developers finding ways to implement VR in gaming.

The displays being used in Rift are much higher resolution than PSVR. I seen the preview which said PSVR still looked smoother with less screen door effect, but the way PSVR is splitting a single screen isn't the same as Rift which uses a higher resolution display for each eye. It will be interesting to see how this effects future titles. What we have seen to this point is pretty underwhelming for both, but we are in the infancy of VR.

If you would bother to read Wallstreet37's linked articles, you'd already know that Sony's screen and the general ergonomics are superior even to the high class headsets, even if they have higher resolution.

Sony has sometimes decades of experience in all needed fields from lenses (camera department) over screens to 3D headsets and motion tracking and most importantly GAMES.

Don't underestimate them.

Remember the DK2 used a Samsung tweaked Galaxy Note 3 screen.

So it is not so much about just the screen & its resolution, its also the other parts such as the Binocular lenses quality's ability to be as lenses clear as you can for VR just as much as the screen itself. Its not just screen resolution, though its a good valuable thing to have that is for sure..good post by the way.

PS Move was the only 1:1 full motion control scheme last gen and worked really good (awww man Sports champions and killzone was dope with it)so im looking forward to it. Can they make more motion control peripherals? Sure id be open to that too but i own move and know how good it works.

Sony should make a full motion glove though, that would be dope (similar to what Nintendos power glove would have been had it came out this gen)

I don't have a problem with any of this. I fully expect the high end model to be on the PC. That's PC. As for the games? We are still comparing already launched full experience games on Rift to a system not yet released PSVR. So that part is harder to compare. Although I was always impressed with the large library of horror Rift has. Like this article says it brings up good points on Move controllers. I think those are not that good for PSVR either. I want different than move controller as well. Something a little.. cooler. However it's not a deal breaker. Overall I expected the PSVR to be midrange. That's decent virtual reality. Like he said as long as you don't have a Rift you won't notice and will be completely happy with the PSVR quality. Its similar to watching Tv on a LED vs LCD. After watching LED or OLED you may not want to go back to LCD. However LCD still can be gorgeous.

All three have motion control systems.
