Nintendo´s Wii U console still has a lot to offer, so don´t count it out just yet

In my (David Lucas, The Gaming Ground) previous article, we have speculated what the Nintendo NX might hold for us. And after some consideration, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about the positives about the Wii U console. Especially since "some" people have already stated that the Wii U are dead and gone for life.

Zelda and Star Fox are the main reasons for me, also i can't stop playing games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Splatoon is making a lot of success too.

I still need to play games like Xenoblade and Yoshi's Wooly World.

I was thinking about getting a wii u the other day. I would also like to play some wii games on it too.

But $299 ? really ? that's how much PS4 was going for with three classic games remastered.
Hell no. Remove the gimmicky tablet, and add a controller, make it $200, then I'll consider.

If NX was a great system and it played wii u and wii games, I'd consider that too.

Hopefully it's the latter so I can play the great backlog of Wii u and wii and anything nintendo releases in the future.

Nintendo's website sells them refurbished for $199 with a full year warrantee.

Get that, then either get a pro controller or realize the fact that the pad has all the same buttons as a pro, but either way quit whining about the controller.

Actually I think it may be around $150. I think this because when I had to get my wii u gamepad, it costed $150 to buy it new.

As a former Wii U owner. I'm good on Ninty products. I guess I might get NX for Smash Like I do with every other Ninty system and probably sell it. But I was hardly interested in Wii U Smash, I think I'm finally done with Smash bros

Word on that, and I´m going to admit that I´ve been waiting longer then I should to buy a Wii U. However, I plan to do so in the near future (I had tons of fun with Mario Kart 8 just recently, so it´s a must buy for me).

I would wait and see what they say about the nx. It might be backwards compatible so you could buy that then buy the wii u games to play on it. You'll have a pretty good library for day one of nx then. Depends on if it will be in your price range of course and if it's actually an appealing console to you. Just a thought :)

I definitely agree. Pokken Tournament, Twilight Princess HD, Zelda U, Star Fox Zero, even a potential release of Pikmin 4; just going by what we know about, this is a pretty strong year.

I know the NX's release is near, and that'll have some gamers distracted, but going by the new President's recent comments about wanting to continue support for the console, I think Nintendo is aware that it would be REALLY DUMB to piss off their remaining fanbase.

In order for them to start truly rebuilding trust and awareness of their brand, they need to keep the masses who are already dealing with them happy. It's a long road, but you have to start somewhere.

I hardly doubt that Nintendo wants to make the same mistake as SEGA did when they pulled the plug on the Mega Drive (in favor for favor for SEGA Saturn). Exactly, I need to know more about the NX console though. As I would like to know how big of a difference there will be between the NX and the Wii U console.

The most wanted titles were Mario Kart, Smash Bros and maybe Mario 3D World. All released a good while ago already.

The last "most wanted" wiiU game is Zelda for it.

Nintendo games appeal to everyone. That is why they are so successful.

Sure, Mario does not have guns and blood like your "adult" LOL games, but the gameplay is so good, the music is so good, they appeal to everyone.

Yes XCX is for 10 year olds. because the mature story is so for kids. I guess so are the missions watching a man go crazy and cause mass murder or a religious nut poisons water or terrorist bombings is for kids. You can expect that in XCX because it's there.

Because many share his opinion. Over the last 15 years Nintendo has sold more software and hardware than its first 15 years on the market. That is a fact.

If anything, Nintendo has more fans than they ever had before in general. Just because the Wii U is not a success, does not mean their software is not selling, 3DS is not dominating, ect.

This year IGN, USGamer, and many other sources put Nintendo as publisher of the year (as they usually are) because the majority recognize just how great the games are.

Insecure kids who think their adulthood is based on what kind of games they play. And pretty much all of them write the games off without actually playing them- people who say "I haven't played Nintendo since SNES". Well that's exactly your problem then- you haven't played their games in 20 years yet you judge them.

Kids get really insecure about still being perceived as a kid, so they do things like only play "adult games" and then rant about how Nintendo games "haven't grown up with them". They're not supposed to "grow up with you". And growing up doesn't mean become vulgar, violent and profane- in fact, true growing up is growing OUT OF those things.

One day when you really grow into adulthood and realize you don't NEED violence, gore and swearing to enjoy a video game, when you realize you CAN actually have fun with neutral games like chess, sports or NINTENDO GAMES, maybe you'll go pick up a Nintendo console and catch up on all these great games you've been missing because you're "too grown up"

I played it at an event in Toronto and most didn't like it. Game controlled pretty bad and it looked pretty dated. I hope they fix these issues because I loved the star fox series but I wouldnt have my hopes up.

The wii u is a great console I just find that its game library for me is lacking. I don't regret my purchase, I've had a blast with it. Mario Maker, donkey Kong, wind waker, Mario kart 8, super Mario Bros and Captain toad (in my top 3 games so far this gen) have made my purchase of the wii u extremely worth while. Then theres splatoon that I didn't have the time to get (even though that's the game I bought the Console for xD ) and xenoblade chronicles which looks cool but not for me. This year however is only the new zelda game if it even releases. There are other games as well but they don't really interest me. Like I said it's a great console, I do really like and I have no problem with the game pad, just if I were to have the wii u as my only console, I'd be left wanting I think. I found it the perfect complimentary console to the other 2 and pc. Having all 3 and a pc made a great library of games for me to play so I'm never actually left wanting. Hopefully the nx will be a great console that brings a lot more games for Nintendo gamers. I'm sure I'll be getting it!

Never played Until Dawn - can't comment. Bloodbourne is certainly a great game, but (for me) too hampered by a poor fps to consider it an all-time great.

The games aren't growing up. Well hardly anybody could handle super Mario Galaxy, oh that's hard to control. No it's just different but when it comes down to it there's not an awful lot of difference between Super Mario 64 controls and Mario Galaxy, however Mario Galaxy 1 is one of the best platformers ever, kids game?, hardly. They won't be able to do half the stuff in that game. Try going for All the stars. Sure peach didn't get her boobs out or nothing but then that's just wrong.
Pixar films are aimed at kids your telling me not a single adult actually enjoys watching them films they are classics.
A game or a film doesn't have to be 18 or Rated M to be good.

I don't have the time or patience to play just one little segment of games on a single platform. If people want to only play on PS4 and skip Nintendo, go right ahead. If people want to only play Wii U and 3DS and skip PS4/X1, go for it.

But as for me, I am not ignorant to the fact that there are great games on ALL platforms, and there is no justifiable reason to skip an entire platform of games. No, there is no such thing as being "too grown up" to enjoy a good Nintendo game- only too insecure.

I'll be over here with gamepad in my left hand and 3DS in my right, playing some Xenoblade Chronicles X and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, waiting for Star Fox Zero and Fire Emblem Fates to release.

The only remotely hard game I played last year that was on PS4 and Xbox one was Dark souls 2 Scholars. Most gamers would struggle to complete a later level of a Yoshi game.

Never have counted any nintendo console out.. I even bought virtual boy BUT it was on clearance & wario land is fantastic on there.. Wii U has some of the funnest games to play & theres more incoming
