CES 2016: Charge an Xbox One Controller in Under 60 Seconds with PDP's Super Charger

Accessory maker Performance Designed Products (PDP) is coming out with a quick charger, called Super Charger, for the Xbox One controller. The Super Charger will be able to fully charge your Xbox One controller in under 60 seconds, which is a first for the video game industry, claims PDP. One full charge will provide 10-12 hours of gameplay.

Does it use special rechargeable batteries?

Because the materials used in stock rechargeable batteries aren't designed for rapid charging in 60 seconds.

This, rapid charging like this will almost certainly destroy current battery designs in months, possbily even weeks...assuming the batteries are able to take in that much power quickly without exploding in the first place

It probably uses super capacitors

Actually modern lithium batteries can charge that quickly the issue is heat. The way to avoid such an issue is to use a battery that has a higher capacity. So for example if they say the battery is good for 12 hours of use they could be using a battery that's actually good for 20 hours and only charging it 3/4 of the way before shutting the charger down. That's basically how quick chargers in phones work. They rapidly charge to about 80% capacity then trickle the last 20% to avoid heat issues. I have a standard AA charger that charges in 15 min to 90% capacity then trickle charges the last 10% over another 20 min. Those AA'S last about 20 hours in my controller. Its surprising we haven't seen this already although I do have an energizer xb1 charger that charges in about 30 min but they only last about 5-6 hours.

I'll be getting that unless its unreasonably priced.

or just change the batteries in 5 seconds...

Yeah I have my rechargeable batteries since my Xbox 360 days. Even the Elite controller lasts for AGES. I thought that would suffer from low battery times.

Do people disagree that I can change the batteries in 5 seconds ? challenge ?

I already use a plug in to wall charger that charges overnight. If a charger that could do it in 60 seconds exist I would definitely buy. However, I hope it really works as advertised as that would be the reason for me too upgrade.

They make chargers that will recharge AA or AAA batteries in 15 min. They cost about $10 more than the chargers that take 8-12 hours.

Nice to have so many options of how you want to use your controller. Regular AA bateries, rechargeable, packs, wired or super charged. This seems awesome and somewhat scary. Makes you think it will explode.
