Can "Hardcore" Wii Players exist?

Uh, i'm getting tired of the same old crappy 'Wii/hardcore gamers' things. Shut the f**k up because there are some hardcore games coming out in the near future!

To name a few: Wario Land: Shake!, Call of Duty: World at War, Sonic Unleashed, MadWorld, The Conduit (which I am loving!!!), and of course Nintendo's next Mario and Zelda title!

Haven't played CoD5 on Wii, but every other FPS but Metroid on the system has sucked utter anusballs.

Maybe it'll get better with Motion Plus, but the Wii just isn't tech enough to do it right.

Similar to why swordfighting just won't work on Wii. There's a point when you contact your opponents sword and try to parry. The Wii has no way of telling you where your sword should have stopped, making really awkward gameplay in that regard.

I agree that Warioland is not hardcore. There's not much challenge involved, it's marketed and designed for kids, and there's little in the way of depth. Good enough answer for you?

Mario is not hardcore, either. He's extremely casual these days and his voice is more annoying than anything I can remember in recent history. And the incessant beeping when you have 1 bar of health until you either die or quit the game or get more health is the single most annoying mechanic in any game to date.

Back when Mario didn't have a health bar, he was hardcore. Now he's there for the entry-level gamer.

That doesn't keep the hardcore from playing through once and seeing some creative level design, but other than that most of us aren't playing through Galaxy a second time. It's now a rental.

If Bigfoot creatures do exist, it is clear that they use alot of their intelligence in order to remain hidden and elusive. Being a "Hardcore" Nintendo gamer, I can see why many would choose to remain under the radar. It can be embarrassing associating with typical fanboys. Over 6 million of Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Super Mario Galaxy have sold (And counting). While over 4 million of LoZ: Twilight Princess have sold. Nintendo Hardcore may have quirky and particular tastes, but they exist in large numbers. Just as Bigfoot may. Check out the video.

Exactly let them bash it doesn't stop a system. The sega guys did it to the PS and so did the nintendo guys it did not do them any good. No one is loyal and as soon as the games started coming out people dropped the Dreamcast like it never existed. People are saying they want a PS3 like they want and SUV but they just don't want the cost involved then on top of that I have a hard time justifying it as a console with all the extra crap and sorry selection of poorly selling games. Would you care to educate me how you define an "intelligent game" and which PS3/X360 games fall into that category?

There are very few console games that actually require intelligence. Portal, Echochrome and Zack&Wiki are perhaps the only ones I know of current generation console games.

If you meant intelligent as in offering intellectual content, there are none. Most games wouldn't even benefit from it.

Well I like Metroid Prime 3 and No More Heroes, and by my standards they are the only two games I would consider hardcore and exclusive. I am a hardcore player and I spend most of my gaming on my Ps3. When and if Nintendo utilize 1:1 maybe I will consider the Wii a game machine and not a toy.
For the record I think the Wii had the most promise of actually being something truly unique in the way games would be played, but instead it is having an effect on how games are made. Sorry if I am being harsh but I like my precision and I am tired of the "waggle".

I hate the term "hardcore."

It's not an effective descriptive term. It tries to force the hugely diverse range of gamers into a simple hardcore/casual dichotomy.

And what purpose do these two categories even serve, besides facilitating elitism? It turns everything into a pointlessly genital-waving bought to determine who is hardcore, and, further, who is MOST hardcore. This only alienates new gamers and forces even old gamers to prove their hardcore merit instead of fostering a sense of community or creating a legitimate discussion of different gaming styles.

I think traditional would be a better term instead of hardcore and leisurely could be used for casual. These terms would take out the elitist context from the debate, but I think traditionalist do have a valid argument in the sense that they feel somewhat neglected by the fact that Nintendo isn't catering to both camps equally. It's especially prevalent with single console Wii owners. While most traditionalists are multi-console owners, such as myself, when seen in a larger context the Wii represents a scary trend, for traditional gamers, which might spill over to the 360 and Ps3. We might be relegated to the history books in the near future.

They can exist on the Wii, but they are seriously in the minority, and would be better served by the PS3/360. Developers know this and you should not expect to see a lot of core titles for the Wii. A guy up above me listed about every hardcore game that is announced for the Wii in the next 2 years, and it was a very small list.

As long as this is a fact, the Wii will forever continue to neglect hardcore gaming demands. I fear for Nintendo's future if Sony or Microsoft steal the adult audience aways from Nintendo with a title like, say, LittleBigPlanet. When Wii Fit and Wii Music aren't considered a child's dream toy or the status item that the Wii has slowly turned into in the eyes of soccer moms everywhere, the Wii is in trouble.

That said, as a Wii owner, I would REALLY appreciate Nintendo delivering something close to a traditional gamer market approach with atleast one or two more mature first-party offering. No nintendogs, no animal crossing or Wii music...how about a Zelda that isn't right to formula? That would be nice!

Actually the Wii is the most tradition console there is. it is so tradition that it mimics arcade game to the point that it is actually putting them out of business in japan. The HD console mimic PC gaming. if you did not grow up with really good arcade I can see how it can be hard for you to tell the difference. Nintendo is catering to the arcade audience... it has the NEO-GEO in it's VC line up and most really great VC games are arcade ports!

By comparison the PS3 games are experimental with out much success and the arcade stuff from MS is sort of lame when we can own actual whole games from back in the day.

So far the Wii is the console every one wanted the N64 to be. The Wii acknoledges what gaming was before the PS brand and why it was so strong. It also uses a PS brand trick to get more people into hardcore gaming controller evolution. The Wii mote is prefect because you can have waggle games are games that require prefect motion execution and great hand eye coordination aiming because it's not dead on aim.

Then you have the motion+ coming now you will have 1:1 we've been wanting that since the N64. Face it nintendo is a great student that developed a platform not a gimmick in order to charge people more money and help win a format war. MS shows you than money buys a lot but it doesn't always buy you talent.

It doesn't get more traditional than the Wii right now. If you have ever seen an intellivision, coleco, or atari with all of the specialty controls you will understand why it is more of a console.

Plus too the HD console almost ignore any thing that was made before the PS era... that is not exactly console like. 96 was the end of the golden age of consoles. 06 is the beginning of the end of the PS age or pop gaming which you guys call casual gaming.

Assuming that most Wii owners are casual is about as silly as saying games make people kill people. 555,000 in the summer time is pretty hardcore to me. You guys just can't believe gaming is becoming a hit with every one.

Madworld, Deadly Creatures (though I know little about it), Obouro, possibly Animales, de Blob, the Conduit (new developer, pretty uncommon genre for wii - will appeal to FPS fans who don't have one of the other two major consoles), Little King's Story, and if we ever see Crystal Chronicles are the only titles on the horizon that even remotely interest the hardcore crowd.

It's immature to state that all of them will please, however. At least 2 of those 8 games are not going to be that good.

6 games, hell, even 8 games over the next 18 months is pretty abysmal. Pretty horrible upcoming release list if you're looking for more than Warioware.

Well, I didn't mean to state that 8 games is all that are coming out.

Those are the ones I have my eye on. Warioland is one I didn't mention, which could be good (I just said it wasn't exactly geared towards the "core" market). I really hope Tenchu 4 is good, which you're right that I forgot to mention. It's by the guys who did the first two if, I'm not mistaken. I have Dead Rising on 360, so will be skipping the Wii release, but I think Wii-only owners should look forward to it. I think it'll be damn good. Monster Hunter 3 is also definitely something to look forward to, which I will add to my own upcoming Wii release list.

Someone asked what the exclusive games were on 360, and I found a list and named the ones that anyone would really care about.

I didn't say any of them were must-own, Voiceofreason. I said most of them were titles most people probably would NOT want, in fact. I also think it's funny that you mocked my list of 360 games but have now created your own little list. I agree with a lot of titles on there, other than you saying Madden has all this exclusive content (touchdown celebrations?) and Red Steel.

I said the exclusive upcoming titles on PS3 interested me most, but didn't name a list because no one asked for one.

I've been playing GameCube games on my Wii lately, if anyone cares, including Tales of Symphonia which someone reminded me as exclusive to GameCube. The combat is really cool in that game and the story is pretty interesting, if you can get past a lot of the dialogue and the whole pretentious kids with swords anime cliche. Picked up Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and Eternal Darkness again. Even though the Wind Waker wasn't exactly "core," I dig it.

I'm also a big fan of Warioware, by the way, and have Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, RE4 for Wii, Okami, No More Heroes, Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, and Smash Bros.

I just wish the controls were a little more responsive for a lot of games and that I didn't have to repeat a lot of movements to get positive results.

The weaknesses of the controller should really be magnified when people play Force Unleashed on Wii in that "duel mode" you were boasting about. I really don't see it working well once you hit your opponent's lightsaber. I don't plan on playing Force Unleashed because the graphics are downgraded for the system and I want to see the game in all its beauty. I may rent the game for the extra levels you mentioned, but I most likely will be playing on PS3 or 360.

I don't hate the controller, it just can be very frustrating on occasion to suffer some kind of consequence at the hands of the method of input for Wii games other than Smash Bros.

Does the classic controller work for all Wii games? I think I should go try it out, because i remember using it briefly in Brawl before switching back to the gamecube controller.

Not a big portable guy, though I used to have a DS and just about every handheld before it.

At that price you better become one hell of a cheerleader. SONY came out half dead every one knows it. When it started to beat the xbox in sales it was like it was released from the hospital. I have to admit I was rooting too. It's never pretty when you loose a player in this biz. Lots of professionals are jaded due to these console wars and they will never return to gaming. It's really sad too cause the talent is lacking pretty bad right now and shaders are the next jesus for gaming it seems or at least that's what they where hoping.

Now if they would all back PC gaming we would have gotten a way better GPU for the PS3. The 8800 would have been crazy in there. Too bad too late I guess.

Another thing is where is the hardcore? I mean are they really on the other consoles? That's a lot of kids with $500 consoles? Seriously kids are the majority of the hardcore every one knows it. Most xbox owners won't even buy certain games in order to keep their man hood card. The PS3 guys are different though they are the closest to console gamers but I'd say most PS3 aren't being used for games if you look at how many perfect games come out yet the hardcore are not buying them at over 50%.

If you ask me they went for the wrong part of the hardcore... They have a bunch of cheap PC hardcore gamers. yet those same people they hate are buying a game system only to play games on that's really ironic. As I've said I think these fairly recent terms used to describe gamers/games is ridiculous. I mean how would you describe Tetris? Casual? because you can pick up and play or Hardcore because you can get 6 figure scores? I don't know its bogus talk to me. While I think LBP is good for PS3's library I'm not so sure why its treated as this supposed blockbuster title, which to be fair we don't know if it will sell. I hope it does, simply because the games coming out are getting pretty monotnous.
