GTA 5 DLC: Liberty City expansion coming to single-player?

GTA 5 single-player mode has long been overshadowed by the popularity of GTA Online, which has often driven away Rockstar's developmental efforts including DLC releases towards the latter. However, renowned YouTuber MrBossFTW aka Ross has raised some hopes of seeing a new single-player DLC for GTA 5 based on some Liberty City game locales in near future.

Coming back to Liberty City DLC, the tipster clarifies to a fan that he is actually referring to the game location and not just the textures found in the files. This could actually mean that Rockstar's recent release of Liberty City stories for mobile phones and the game's secret unlockable T-Shirt reading: "I love Liberty City", may have something to do with Rockstar's plans for releasing a single-player DLC in GTA 5 for current-gen gaming platforms.

We've already been there in the HD age. I'd rather see a smaller new place while Vice City is done in GTAVI

I really want an Alien invasion, non cannon story similar to undead nightmare. Either that or a Supernatural one where not only Zombies roam the map but witches, werewolf's, ghosts, vampires, swamp monsters, banshees etc roam around...like Trevor has found the book of the dead or something and unleashed evil on Los Santos XD

Jalva3418d ago

It could work, GTAV is no stranger to acid.

-Foxtrot3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

Well there is that but even a silly, non cannon story would work

It worked for Red Dead...it was like "here's is a zombie single player story DLC...just because"

GHOSTxx4203417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

Haven't they confirmed there wouldnt be any single player Dlc?

Would love to see it dont get me wrong im just pretty sure they said no already to the single player dlc. I hope im wrong ive been wanting to get back into this game.

Liqu1d3417d ago

Don't think so. Last I remember them talking about SP DLC was 2014 where they said "stay tuned for news on story DLC" or something like that. Haven't had any news since.

I do remember them saying that the team is focused on the online mode at the moment, but I haven't seen a confirmation that SP DLC is cancelled.

To be honest I don't think SP DLC will happen anymore now that they've got the cash cards making them money. Sad really because I bought GTA for SP, and even though I played a lot of multiplayer I always wanted more SP content.

derrickgott0073417d ago

When I broke the story of GTAV coming to ps4/xb1 people argued with me and said "No its not, Rockstar said it isnt" when clearly Rockstar has a record of saying "No we are not" when clearly they are.

deadpoolio3163417d ago

YES actually they did....They clearly stated there are no plans for anything SP and their focus was going to be on GTA online content/events in that from here on out

GHOSTxx4203417d ago

Well maybe it wont be single player but online and thats where we will get the liberty city.. Idk guess time will tell

Seen Ash vs Evil Dead? That cheesey slapstick horror would work well in a GTA5 DLC

Psychotica3417d ago

This is supposed to be a serious game not some kind of over the top Saints Row game. I for one hope they never do any of that crap you are suggesting.

-Foxtrot3417d ago

Red Dead was serious and they did something silly...everyone loved it

Same would happen here

cogniveritas3417d ago

Some part of me thinks that if Red Dead Redemption had online multiplayer that we never would have gotten Undead Nightmare. There would have been a bunch of multiplayer guns and events instead.

-Foxtrot3417d ago

That's why they need to open a new studio or get a studio they already have to create a seperate online GTA game or whatever online game they are currently doing in the main Rockstar branch.

Then they can release it well after release while the main team work on the core part of the game and the expansions.

KwietStorm_BLM3417d ago

What do you mean if RDR had online multiplayer? Do you mean a separate entity like GTA Online?

Clown_Syndr0me3417d ago

RDR had a brilliant multiplayer. ..

badz1493417d ago

@cogniveritas

Dude...RDR does have MP.

_-EDMIX-_3417d ago

? My issue with this article is how do they know? No one actually knows if the team working on the online would be working on SP or even if they ever did in the first place.

"which has often driven away Rockstar's developmental efforts including DLC releases towards the latter"

Who at Rockstar stated its online content was made by the same people who would be making the single player or that it was made instead of single player dlc?

" if Red Dead Redemption had online multiplayer that we never would have gotten Undead Nightmare. There would have been a bunch of multiplayer guns and events instead"

Sooooooooo how exactly do you know that? Red Dead Redemption right now HAS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!

I'm sorry but I have to seriously question what you think you know, when you say something like "if Red Dead Redemption had online mulitiplayer"

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

So what if it had a feature that it actually for a fact has?

Did you forget GTAIV has online multiplayer too?

Have you not factored that they have done both and that the people making the online, are not the same people making its single player dlc? You do know that they hire developers based on certain talents right?

@FOX- "
Then they can release it well after release while the main team work on the core part of the game and the expansions" No.

How do you know they don't already have a team doing that and they are making GTA Online as a add on bonus vs a different thing? The core team is still the team that actually does the single player, they just brought in new members to do the networking and create the multiplayer modes.

I'm pretty sure they didn't just get THE ENTIRE TEAM doing mulitplayer. Consider what your saying, is very likely already how they develop GTA in the first place, merely just have the online part of the game, they likely don't feel it will do well enough on its own.

I could see case for making it separate for business reasons, but it makes more sense to just add it for free as a mode and bank on the DLC vs lower its potential install base.

personally i think it's too lte for GTA dlc single plater story. if it was gonna happen it would have happened already

i think we will see R* release a game in 2016(RDR,Agent,midnight club,La:noire etc,)

if a single player dlc is released i will buy it for sure but personally i just don't see that happening. R* are also making a lot of money from gta online

deadpoolio3163417d ago

No there are idiot GTA fanboys who even after all this time would still claim it was going to be like the second coming of Jesus from the fairy tales and would buy it.....The people who just think GTA is OK have moved on and wouldn't touch it

For DLC I'm ok with it. Next game should be an original city but Vice City could work too.

HOOHAARR3417d ago

I for one have no interest in GTA Online and if they don't announce something about story dlc soon I'll be selling my copy! I reall don't like the direction Rockstar seem to be taking GTA!!

What you don't like the overly realistic gritty ghetto thug life narrative....It definitely was much better back in the GTA 3 and Vice City days

HOOHAARR3416d ago

GTA's one of the only single player games still worth buying, looks like that's about to change!!

‘GTA V Gets Pulled from PS Plus as PC Players Continue to Favor Legacy Over Enhanced’

That’s an awful clickbait title. The use of the word ‘as’ means the first statement is the result of the second, when in reality they’re not connected.

Profchaos2d ago

Also the same for red dead redemption 2 and GTA trilogy (albeit they split that into individual games)

Tacoboto2d ago

It just got put back on Game Pass recently too.

GTA V is the pass-around sub title, and it probably doesn't even matter because everyone owns a copy or even two by now.

Noticed my copy of gta5 on Steam was already upgraded without me doing anything. How can you still play the legacy version?

Shiore2u1d 6h ago

There should be a second listing right under it in your library.

Is there anything wrong with the enhanced version if you’re just playing single player?

My problem with the game is they want to install a Kernel level driver before I can even boot the game in sngle player mode I don't care about GTA online

I flat out refuse to allow any game kernal level it's a huge risk I don't need to take

It's not the only game that has done this. Ut it's absolutely shutting the dorr completely on PC gaming for me kernal level drivers are ineffective at preventing cheaters but publishers insist on continued use

My big issue is how long it takes to transition between open world and interiors in Online.
Sometimes it can take over a minute of just starring at a black screen.

It looks great, got everything running on ultra, have long shadows set to max and it's running silky smooth.

The ray tracing and lighting makes the game look amazing.

CrimsonIdol49d ago

The reflections are a noisy mess, particularly with DLSS. Shame they didn't have ray reconstruction, seems to work wonders for cyberpunk

MrDead49d ago

The reflections are like a mirror, I have no noise at all. Are you sure you have it set correctly?

CrimsonIdol49d ago

I've everything maxed out. the reflections DO have a lot of noise in them in motion. When you stop for a second to look at them they look okay but when you're driving around there's a definite blur and sparkle to them that you often get from RT. Again, exactly the same as you get in Cyberpunk without ray reconstruction but is much reduced with.

MrDead49d ago

I really don't have that, what you see here is what I have in motion even online vids have it completely clear. I'm running of a 5090 with everything set to the highest.

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

CrimsonIdol48d ago

Ah I see. Well if you have a 5090 then I'm guessing are you're probably getting quite a high frame rate (I'm guessing hitting that 120 fps max), which will make a difference too, since the RT samples in the reflections accumulate temporally. I'm on a 3080 so I'm keeping my frame rate around 60-75 at 4K, and the low sample/high noise of the RT is definitely apparent… particularly on moving cars at night time I've noticed the most (makes sense given highest contrast between light and dark) DLSS amplifies the noise too, it's the big thing that sticks out as low fidelity when the rest resolves nicely

CrimsonIdol48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Just had a chance to watch this on my 4K monitor now. Do you not see the blurriness of the reflections in relation to everything else in motion? Like it's definitely better and less noisy than it is for me at 60fps with quality DLSS but it's still pretty bad compared to how crisp the screen space/cubemap ones were when driving about. fine when you stop for a second but driving around you're rarely stopped so it's near constant muddy reflections.
