Carl Williams writes, "I have covered the development of the RETRO Video Game System for quite a while. I interviewed the former team that were running things. I spent over 20 hours transcribing that interview into text for those that prefer to copy/paste when sharing rather than share time stamps in an audio file. They had a failed IndieGoGo campaign, mainly fingers were pointing at lack of a playable prototype. Now, the people behind the RETRO VGS have partnered with Coleco Holdings and rebranded the RETRO VGS. We now have the Coleco Chameleon to talk about. You may have been seeing stories popping up stating that Coleco was back, resurrected or whatever. You have been lied to. The Coleco that took on Atari is still very much dead."
A history of one of gaming's weirdest consoles, the Coleco Telstar Arcade, which sported control knobs, a steering wheel and a gun.
seems like it would be expensive to put all those parts in. although i like the idea of having the wheel and gun already in there
The rollerball with Slither was where it was at but I remember this puppy as well.
Might work well as a controller for a GTA type of game. Just imagine pointing the gun at the screen while using the steering wheel with your other hand.
Hardcore Gamer: Coleco has been in the game-making biz for decades. One of their claims to fame came in the form of miniature arcade cabinets allowing you to play some classic titles practically anywhere. Now, they are making a comeback with two new games and some upgraded features.
The Ataribox is exciting, but it definitely brings with it a scary case of deja vu. Here's hoping Atari can avoid the pitfalls of the ill-fated Chameleon.
I seriously don't see how Atari has any chance of major success.
Even longtime veteran Nintendo struggled with Wii U. Even GameCube sold less than newcomer Xbox. Atari, a company known for bad business decisions and almost killing this industry in North America, stands even less of a chance.
Are we to believe that a company that nearly killed gaming in North America and barely passed by as a third party publisher in recent years has a chance at being a major competitor in the console arena?
They couldn't even keep their flagship franchises relevant and this wouldn't even be their first time trying to stage a comeback.
Anybody else notice that this thing has the same exact inputs that a Raspberry Pi has?
