"Please Be Excited" - The Final Fantasy VII Remake

Mark: I didn’t want a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Oh yeah, I’m one of those people. It’s my favorite game of all time. Yes, a lot of that has to do with nostalgia, but growing up with that game being one of the first epic tales I’d yet to see in my gaming career still means a lot to me. I still remember things from my first playthrough, like having to grind for hours on end to overpower a boss because my friend’s disc I had borrowed was scratched, and if the boss used a specific attack, it would freeze the game. I remember blowing off homework to breed chocobos, and resetting the system a million times if I got another blue one when I really needed a green one. I loved that game.

Kind of hard too with how SE is taking it.

I heard that they're doing an "episodic" release of it.
Does that mean they're gonna charge us for separate parts of the story when the original was all on one disk?

Summons751663d ago (Edited 1663d ago )

They didn't say episodic and we have no idea what they mean by multipart series. What we do know is they are giving tons of extra content on top of the original content. So until we have the final product in our hand there is no need for any of this over reacting to some bloggers being butthurt about extra content.

Are we SURE they didn't say "episodic"?
Because releasing the story in parts then phrasing it as a "multipart series" is practically the same thing...

Summons751663d ago

Episodic and Mulitpart are two completely different things. Episodic, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Life is Strange. Multipart Series LITERALLY ANYTHING that has 2 or more parts, Halo, Mass Effect, Half-Life. So if you have a problem with them saying multipart series then you best be complaining the new Mass Effect trilogy is in 3 parts when they could cut and cram it into one game because that's about what people are doing right now with this.

Even IF it was Episodic and they release it Disc 1, 2, then 3 they still wouldn't be $60 each like some bloggers are claiming.

"the original was all on one disk"

It was on 3 disks, but I'm very much with anyone who is against this releasing in parts.

Saranya1663d ago

If i compared with The Witcher 3 I wonder why The Witcher 3 was epic but, we can finished in one disc?

I've written similar comments before, but it bears repeating. Formerly, SE was clear that FF VII would not be remade until they had produced a game that topped it. I respected that position, and I was legitimately excited that their next game might be the one. It showed ambition and a creative push from within SE to top itself. Even if they failed, I would support their decision to press ahead and develop new titles rather than cash in on nostalgia.

Instead, we are still waiting for FFXV, and now we hear about the remake of VII. The news coming out continues to confuse fans of the title, too. I share the author's trepidation, and I would be lying if I said I was excited at this stage.

As an aside, it has completely extinguished my excitement for XV, too. Either SE has backed down from their previous goal of topping (arguably) their biggest title, or they are admitting that XV will not be better than their previous games. Either way, it's disappointing.
