Microsoft Has Success With Xbox 360 Movie-TV Downloads

Despite a rocky launch with massive slowdowns in downloads for the first couple of days, Microsoft's addition of movie and TV episode downloads for the Xbox 360 console is showing signs of success. This Variety story reports that while exact figures have not been revealed, Hollywood studios are saying that video and TV downloads are doing as well or better on Xbox 360 consoles than similar services like CinemaNow, Movielink and Amazon's Unbox service, which are available on more widely available PC platforms. Analysts suggest that the Xbox 360's ease of use, its connection to TVs, and its support of HD downloads are part of the reason for its success. Even though it takes several hours to download an HD movie or TV episode via Xbox Live, the article states that more people choose the HD version over the standard version.

The whole TV downloading thing is a very interesting thing I would drop a couple of quid to give it a try but I don't think it would ever become my primary entertainment medium! Come on M$ bring it to the UK, let us in on the action!

Something very interesting from this tech in the UK would be the BBC iMP! As the software is free and will allow access to all BBC programs free of charge for 1 week after transmission! Free TV downloads of Buzzcocks, Top Gear and Dr Who would be very interesting and would be a major selling point of the 360 over other consoles in the UK! It would be possible as the software was designed partly by M$ and based upon WMP11!

Forgot to say, BBC downloads would be free because of the licence fee we all pay!

Yeah I've been downloading Spongebob for my boy. Other then that I have downloaded about 4 or 5 HiDef movies. I think it's a great service. It works really well. The download times are not that bad because you can start watching about 15% into the download. On standard def, I can start watching in less than 5 minutes from download start time. Overall, it's faster than driving to the video store and renting a movie.

yea, they need to get more stations and if they started to get licenses to sports, like the nfl or nba, it would be killer.
