Digital Foundry:
So we're left with an interesting comparison then - the original PlayStation 2 code operating at 1280x896 via PS4's emulator, up against the stark 720p remaster, awash with jaggies owing to the total omission of anti-aliasing. Yes, one year on and even in the latest release of the remaster, the developer decided not to add it. Even a pass of FXAA would have helped here - in fact, the somewhat harsh presentation should in theory work rather well with post-process anti-aliasing techniques so it is a real shame that it still hasn't been added. The end result is that the PlayStation 4 emulation while operating at a similar resolution doesn't have anything like the same issues - thanks to a combination of the post-processing and upscaling techniques inherent in the emulator.
There are some games on the PS2 that really pushed the capabilities of the PS2 itself to their limits.
Did they really skip Shadow of the Colossus? I would definitely swap Dark Cloud for that.
god of war 2 looked better than most of the launch games, just like last of us 1 ,kz2 and god of war 3 looking better than a bunch of launch ps4 games, and kz2 for reason looks just as good in 2024, that game had some black magic
Eight seminal games were released on the gaming market between October 26 and November 23, 2004. Twenty years later, here's Wccftech's retrospective.
You're not gonna include Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal or Jak 3 on that list? Just change it to Fall 2004 Releases and include the masterpiece that is Sly 2.
With plenty of open world games to choose from on the PlayStation 2, narrowing down the list to just the 15 best is quite the difficult task.
Damn the PS3 version looks better.
Everyone who has a halfway decent PC at home and knows how to run games via the PS2 emulator knows that even the official remasters of games like Kingdom hearts or Final Fantasy X are stil looking better.
The differences between the emulated games on PC and on Playstation 4 are even bigger. Alone already because safestate and faster play but also because the graphics are a lot better looking via the psxc2 emulator.
For us people that have still the original PS2 games in physical form at home or transfered the data into iso files, the expensive emulated games on PS4 are just a bad joke like the PS1 and 2 "classics " on PS3 before.
15€ for 30fps PS2 game? KEKEKEKEKEKE
This was about 3 pounds on the 360. Sony are garbage with prices. These games do not age well at all.
Looks like the game held up well to me.
